Do you have an insight on Cava JFF sidewall durability vs SBH (regular casing) ? How about efficiency? Am worried the Conti’s won’t fit under my fenders…
I’ve only ridden the Cava briefly and it’s a very different tire than the SBH atmo. The file tread of the Cava is definitely more at home on luxe gravel than pavement. Cornering is …. weird.
But iirc the SBH tires had stretched to about 49 so… if you ran those, you should be fine with the Conti.
Does anyone know what these vittoria tatoos are like? Looking at fat 26ers for a bike i scrounged for a buddy. CAD3 F1000
how have I never seen those?
no idea
I just copped a pair for the cargo bike, will report back.
Hey! Anyone have any good puncture resistant 29er gravel tire? I run Maxxis Ikons on my Fargo for day riding as I am willing to eat the extra resistance in order to have the option to jump on some single track or some class 4s that never quite dry up and for anything ~60 miles or less they’re fine.
I am doing a 5 day 300mi/30,000’ poopbarn in September on mostly hard packed gravel and feel I will start to notice the negative impacts of the knobby boys enough to potentially make a difference in the fun quotient.
In my cursory research I have only been able to find the Specialized Pathfinders to be a suitable option in 29er sizeway but I’m way out of the tire game. Any recommendations I may not be aware of? Willing to take more resistance for very good puncture protection.
Vittoria Terreno Dry come in at least 2.1" maybe bigger. I’ve liked mine in 40mm, and I had a customer run them on Trans North Georgia with zero issues. TNGA route has some famously bad rock gardens/roads.
Conti Race King are legitimately fast tires. Dude just got top ten at Unbound on some and they test fast.
Maxxis Aspen are very fast too.
Terreno dry comes in 29x2.25. I’m using this on the back of the XC bike currently leading up to this weekend’s 100 mile mtb ride/race thing.
I think I’m gonna give the Terreno Dry a try for July and see how it goes - appreciate it!
That was Dylan Johnson.
I have a set and can attest they are fast AF. I got them based on the BRR data, I think from this review:
At some pressures it has better rolling resistance than the GP5k
Installed & fondled, but haven’t ridden them yet. Surprisingly light for a moderate sized, wire bead 26 tire. Definitely feel nice. I’m sure they’ll be a huge upgrade from the 2.35 small block 8s that have been on there until now.
More poopbarn than gravgrav but everyone uses Mezcals here for robustnuss. Racekings definitely way faster, if you get the Protection model, not the performance model. Seems backward.
Vittoria Tattoos are great. Transformed the cargo from feeling like I was riding through mud to feeling like a regular bike. Incredible difference. Spinning up from a dead stop slight incline they just have pop. I’ve got them at 35psi f/r might add another 5 to the rear might drop a couple on the front, but I’m a big guy and the bike is heavy. Bet these would absolutely rip on an old 26’r. Tempted to get another pair for the Fat Chance for when my powerblocks finally die.
They of course look tiny on this fat fork. Havent measured actual width.
Those bars are glorious on an xtracycle!
has anyone ever used WTB nine line tires? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pair in real life. they seem like they might be a pretty good fast rolling bikepacking option? otherwise I’ll probably just try to get some race kings
They look nice, but I had such a bad time with the WTB Venture that I don’t ever want their stuff again.
Talking of WTB, I have 150 miles on my Ripmo using WTB sealant in Specialized tires on Raceface rims, running just under 20 psi and I’m pretty darn pleased all around.
I’ve had really good luck with my Ventures and everything I’ve used from WTB in the past, tbh. but maybe I’ve just been lucky
Or I’ve just had rotten luck. My partner has liked her Byways.
