Yeah. There version of UDH i expect?

This. Bottom brackets are getting lower as tires are getting bigger. Lots of stuff well over 7cm optimized for 700 x 45-50.

Pivot rep has been beating around the bush about new Shimano Di2 mtb stuff in 25. I can’t imagine they are going to be able to twist enough arms to actually fight UDH. Especially after how mediocre the last two generations of Shimano trail parts have been.

But you never know. The industry loves a good fuckup.

My guess is it’ll work on UDH bikes but will have some silly name like Shimano Derailleur Integration and they won’t mention UDH anywhere in their marketing or manuals.

Maybe they bring back the Saint direct mount to the through axle.

The truly universal hanger is no hanger at all. (Gong rings)

I have that era of saint on my fuck around bike and it’s truly great. I even have both adapters to use it on horizontal and vertical drops.

Something off with this statement.

  • 700c only. While 650b is a great solution for some situations, 700c is clearly the direction the world is going for general gravel riding and racing.

They’re potentially going to redesign the chainstays to limit clearance? Or is this some sort of warranty dodge or safety regulation? If they’re increasing bb drop to 80mm+ 650bx2.25 is 6mm lower than 700cx44. Enough to be an issue at this range (269-275)?

This is the original UP in 2015. I can’t see how they straighten the chainstays without increasing 650b clearance, unless they also do that weird flat/flare thing some CX/gravel bikes did early on.

I don’t think 650b is dying but it is returning to niche status, although a larger niche than before. The 27.5x2.0 XC tire is dying if not already dead. Continental still has the mid-level version of Race King/Cross King and probably will for a while. Otherwise you’re probably going to have to downgrade to “gravel” tires from Schwalbe or hunt down old stock Maxxis/Kenda tires.

They’re finally bringing back Rapid Rise!

Unless they mean straighten it in the other direction… not doing the drop thing. Yeah, the crappy Race King was all I could see in 2.0. I was very lucky to pick up that last fasttrack NOS cheap. Can go big on the front tho.

Am a bit worried about narrower 27.5 disc rims going by the wayside. They will always have the 30mm and wider stuff for the DH crowd, but the 23-25mm ones could be scarce in the years to come if 700c eats its lunch. Am tempted to stock up a bit after seeing how hard it is to get the 26" i23 disc rims. I feel stuff from Conti and Schwalbe in 27.5 x 2.1 ish will continue for a while.

I had some TR Challenge in 36mm -I was plugging it every week or so. Was supple though

Does anyone know about the Maxxis Pace in 27.5 ? 60 TPI.

Yeah, I had a set on the NFE for fire trails and whatnot during the lockdowns. Mine aren’t 2.1", think they’re maybe 1.75" which don’t appear to be made anymore (actually must be 1.6" cos they fit under my mudguards). They’re fine, plenty of grip on loose dry dirt and gravel, can’t comment on wet grip though. Rolled fine on tarmac too. Can’t comment on longevity or suitability for pukebacking etc.

They seem very cheap here. Might be wire beads…

plenty of my 650b bikes have been at 8cm of drop, and with 180mm cranks too

those bikes optimized for cowardice, not 700c

What’s up with the pins through the flange on the bb. Don’t we traditionally strive for smooth there?
