Maybe it’s time to drink the kool aid

Just cause he’s an ass doesn’t mean they’re not really nice tires

They’re too pricy a gamble when like 1/5 refuses to seal.

The new geek warning podcast on Escape Collective with Gerard from OPEN was interesting. They are still big fans of 650b but reckon the tire industry doesnt really support it so thats the end. They prefer pressfit but the punters demand threaded. He wasnt allowed to say anything about the new shimano dangler stuff. I seem to remember he felt similarly about adopting flat mount brakes. It doesnt sound hes into the super wide tires in 700 so it will be interesting to see what they do with the OPEN WIDE.

Any dead enders here try TPU tubes? Any good?

Yeah, have em on two bikes. Couple of thousand km total, no punctures (touch wood), seem to roll pretty fast. No complaints here. Biggest non-ride-quality advantage is fitting two spare tubes where only one butyl tube fits.

I have two Pirelli Cinturato 33/45 that are exceedingly well-traveled but otherwise unused (backups). DM if you want em, cheap.

agreed, i have a pair of the pink RideNow tubes from Aliexpress in my kit. The one time I’ve had to use one it worked fine.

I still havent tried them… they fell apart in my frame bag. Make sure they are well away from potentially abrasive things, like wet cardboard.

New tire day yesterday. Everyones favourite fast tire sure aint supple !

I was thinking of trying the Panaracers shown with tpu tubes.

I also just bought a set of those in the 26x2.2" sizeway and agreed that they are STIFF in the hand. That said, they’re significantly lighter than the Maxxis Ikons I have in the same size, despite the Ikons performing better in the garage-door-test. Maybe supple is a lie, we’ll see how I feel when I stick these on the bike.

Every conti tire I’ve ever used has been kinda stiff feeling but then rode nice.

This is my first chilli protection one. I think I heard they tend to wear faster.

Cool! I’ll probably give them a go when I swap to bigger tires. The nice thing about sticking with standard clinchers is there are tire deals to be had.

Longtime tubeless hater here. I borrowed a friend’s dyno wheel for a poopbarn.
Put a new chilli raceking on it with 140 mls of stans. Crazy fast feeling tire.

I thought it had settled well, but then noticed bubbles coming out of the valve-stem where it meets the rim ( if I put water on it.) Is this likely to be the tape, or the stem?
PS. I know it’s always the tape. But is it?
PPS, I put a new valve core in it. Also noticed that ALL my core tightening techniques failed. Mulit-tool, not enough room between the spokes. Ali-wolf tooth copy tool, the same, small plastic key doofer that sits in my kit, basically crumbled when I used it, must be very old. Luckily I always carry pliers. Think I have a valve cap that has a key built into it tho so will take that.

If it is coming out at the rim it is not the valve core, it is the rubber gasket at the tape interface, or the tape. You can try to tighten the nut on the valve stem and that’s really your only hope. Also concentrate sealant at that spot and shake the wheel while holding it horizontal to the ground so that sealant splashes on that tape/rubber gasket area.

Yeah, thanks. I know its not the core. I was just mentioning that my core tighteners were all useless. I have tightened down the nut A LOT. It was good for 2 days then started up again. I hate this bullshit.

If you tightened it a lot, you may have torn the rubber.

I learned this the hard way.
I’m all-in on TPU tubes for the moment, if I have minimal flats I might never go back to road tubeless.

I just ordered 2x 650 tpus. I am thinking, i might run one in the back with the quasi motos, and take butyl spares and patch kits. Lower reciprocating mass and easily mended butyl tubes. I have been running tubless front and butyl tubed rear on this bike for well over a year after I got pissed off with having to pump up the rear before each ride. Neither front nor rear have punctured so there is no clear winner here. Only flakey air loss on it while tubeless.

I wonder if anyone else is using tpu off road?
