RTPs are overrated atmo. Too thin / supple means they need more psi not to feel squishy in the turns and end up feeling worse or no better than a Big Apple.

More or less yes. If you want some big reliable rubber that rides nice check out the Continental Contact Urban. A bit undersized but very nice.
Or just go big with the Schwalbe G-One Speed Pro.

Oh boy, I just got a set of Box Three tires in, and Iām gonna keep them around since they were only $20 a tire, but they absolutely look and feel like a $20 tire. Not mad about it, and this just further justifies spending money on tires. Iāll mount them and see how they are though.
G-One Speed Pro looks great on paper, but I suspect itās a tad narrow for my i45 rims.
This pretty much. Tires are expensive but if youāve already decided to shell out for nice ones you should treat yourself.

Most Teravail tires have treated me very well. Iād try the Updraft if I was running that size. But you probably just want Hutchinson Caracal Race.
Speaking of dummy fast tires, I put a Schwalbe G-One Speed Pro 2.35ā out back with a 2.35ā Thunder Burt up front on my country fixed scorcher mtb thing and they are just comically fast. Yesterday I felt like I was riding an eeb, even into a headwind. This was mostly on pavement, with some of my favorite urban dirt cuts. When you roll onto the rough stuff from pavement it seems like you lose no speed at all, probably due to the tire volume (and riding fixed helps with that too). I havenāt felt this way about tires since I put [discontinued] Continental Speed Kings on my Stooge Rambler. My mind is blown, I canāt recommend them highly enough if your bike can fit them.
Iāve had good luck with Teravail tires. Mostly the Cannonballs and Washburns but have some Rutlands on order for the gravel bike. Theyāve been solid for the 70/30 pavement dirt riding I do in LA.
I have a set of these coming on Friday along with a set of wheels. Well, one wheel and parts to build the other one. Youāre getting me excited to try them.
Everything Iāve heard/read about them has been great. Makes me want to get a narrower wheelset for the Jones.
Theyāre so good that for a moment I seriously considered replacing my Stooge Rambler with a Jones SWB with a 29er wheel set with them.
Thatās what I ended up doing, managed to put together a combination that wasnāt super expensive but not too cheap either. Theyāll (maybe) be needed in the winter (if it ever snows again) for the studded tires I just consumed, so why not buy a nice set of tires so the wheels will be useful the rest of the year. Bought some fenders as well because I canāt help but turn every bike into a commuter since thatās really the only riding getting done around here lately.

A little of both.
I bought this rear wheel in the Boost / Shimano HD combo, and then a matching DT M 502 rim, DT 350 hub, DT comp spokes, and Sapim brass nipples to build the front wheel. It ended up being about $660 total before tax/shipping. There are cheaper options available. This just seemed like the best combo for me for the price for good hubs (future parts availability) and I donāt have to worry about what having mismatched rims might do to my little lizard dithering brain.
But now Iām realizing that I forgot to buy tapeā¦
