I bought a cycling specific backpack from mec about 3-4 years ago, but i dont see it on there website, maybe they just dont make it anymore. Anyways it has a built in rain cover, it comes out the bag from the top and wraps around the whole bag and stays in place with tacks on the backside. It works great, never a drop of water.
So check out there bike specific bags, maybe they have a new model or something. Its around 26-28 litre capacity.
I also have one of kemmer’s bags (backside), one of those chrome knockoffs. Its a mess. style bag but the interior vinyl lining is pretty good at keeping everything dry. I use it almost everyday, including winter.
I was there today but saw no such bags. 30 litres aint gonna cut it though. I wimped out on getting the bag I wanted and just bought gloves and leg warmers instead.
I have bailey bag and iv been in some pretttttty bad rain with it and everything stayed nice and dry ?
what about just a seperate cover over the bag you have now, mec must sell something like that for kayaking.
Do you have one of these? I was looking at it and curious as to it’s performance and comfort…
alright, so this is the last mess bag thread i could remember seeing.
i am trying to decide between the chrome metropolis and the seagull black bag medium.
the chrome is listed as 2000 cu. in. but the math comes out to 2548. (26 x 14 x 7 )
http://www.chromebags.com/products/bags/show/14/the black bag is listed as 2754 cu. in., and thats what the math comes to (24 x 13.5 x 8.5). but there is also a listing for the “raw size” at (16x 13.5 x 8.5)
http://seagullbags.com/black/what is the raw size, and does anyone know how big that chrome actually is?
The Chrome is three six-packs of Heineken tallboys + a hoody.
2 jackets, a light weight cycling vest, a pair of shorts, an RELoad hip pouch full of tools, a lock, a portable harddrive, a laptop+charger, 2 books, a 32oz nalgene, a pair of gloves, a cycling hat, a pair of Solar Sheilds, and a pack of gum.
This aint’ yo mama’s mess bag thread.
I have a chrome that I’ve used for work for about six months and I’ve been pretty dissapointed with its durrability. the vinal on the inside is chipping off pretty bad all over where the flap folds over but noting’s gotten wet thus far. The seatbelt style strap is awesome though.
see i am torn on the strap, i mean it seems nice i guess, but i don’t mind lifting over my head. also, it actually seems clunky/cumbersome to me, but i suppose i’m just not used to it. my main concern is the bag will be too big for me whenever i’m not carrying a lot, but i want to be able to grab groceries. i’m thinking the black bag because it is a bit smaller legnth/height, with more width, so it will fold flat and be okay.
dem crom bags aint messenjah approved y’know.
Wow you got a crappy one. Mine has held tough of 2 years of steady abuse.
I think it’s cause I cary a clipboard and the edge rubs the vinal when the bag gets closed.
I carry like ten clipboards and the vinyl doesn’t give a shit!
I carry a 11x14 sketch pad at all times generally, you got hosed.
way to leave that out in the first post! i no longer trust your half-truth opinions
j/k or maybe not
I don’t know what to believe.
i’ve got a black bag and it flattens right down when not full. friends joke and tell me my bag looks like a blanket on my back, but it’s comfortable and i love it.
i also love alcohol being the units of measure for bag size. the black bag fits a case of beer, two forties and a hoody comfortably enough.
