Maybe someone in a shop fucked up clamping it in a stand?
maybe they didn’t even ride it, they just rubbed it with a diaper like Cameron’s dad.
When I was in Montreal I came across these Bassi bikes and really liked the look of this singlespeed.
Can Tarck tell me why it sucks, actually? I have been wanting a medium tire v-brake single speed ever since I saw it.
my theory is a roof rack that somehow grabs the down tube. I’m not sure those exist
There’s a bunch of tiny chips on the front of the down tube and the top of the drive side chain stay. It’s not like the bike is otherwise pristine. I could see it being wear from expected use.
650b rim-brake gives me slight pause. But TBH those on the bike are fine and will last plenty long so as long as you don’t want to futz with it too much it seems pretty cool. I like that with 650b you can get a fatter tire (says it clears 45s), and if you want a front rack it can sit a bit lower so there is fractionally more space for cargo above tire/under bars.
Quill stem looks nice but is slightly limiting, especially if you were thinking of swapping on riser bars.
Personally I like it, I would be tempted to dither the hell out of that. New tires. Fenders. Vintage flat bar canti levers + some cool mini-V brakes. Babby front rack.
The problem is that I already own a horizontal-dropout vintage lugged steel frameset that will clear 700x35 or even fatter with 650b.
The real advantage to that Bassi is V-brakes and it doesn’t need to be dithered.
Bbdrop is only 50. Ime that is going to feel wonky. Top tubes seem long.
Edit: is 50mm drop normal for 650b? For 700c that’d be super high.
I didn’t check the geometry. 50mm is pretty high for fat 650b IMO. I bet they did that for more pedaling cornering clearance if it’s set up fixed. Not something that would stop me from buying it.
how long are you still going to be able to buy rims for it? seams like deadender out the gate
First thig I did was go see if I could buy the wheelset from them for my own dumb projects!
But really, when is the last time any of us wore out a rim-brake rim that we owned from new? And I’d be a dollar @dfl isn’t thinking of this for daily wet-weather commute duty. The CR-18s will last forever.
seems like you could do better on craigslist in the bay area for less money without much work
Depends.
But 50mm drop is pretty shallow
The ride will feel more “on” the bike vs “in” the bike
found on reddit. dude made a minivelo mostly out of a recycled existing frame. whole bunch of photos documenting the process here: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipPAmLcktE2_0bjEs1srf7_IInnXdAZJR4Smszpf_Mno6_sBRPv4uAfsGXU95q-tag?key=SDhwblBNeWhiSU11RHNVTHVvdlBkTDYtbV9zTENn
i like the rear brake reinforcement in particular
raises hand
Just replaced the fourth set of rims on Snowaguchi, oh the joy of Clydesdales and rim brakes
I’m going to give this one a TAF for keeping some of that paint
Speaking of, here’s a Swobo!
Why is shipping from Poland cheaper than shipping from California?
Hudski competitor?
