That’s why it is mirrored
TAF forever, regardless of unappealing stem.
Is that aluminum?
What is the thing on the chainstay?
mismatched stud positions on a factory frame is wild
p sure my tachyon was v/canti front and u rear. didnt care for that at all.
def not unheard of during late 80s early 90s
Slap a Crust logo on it and call it a day
but if you by just the frame on ebay to build your hot xbike your gonna be sad
I was looking for a ubake/ubrake frame for a while and it’s kind of a pain to find. Lots of u-brake rear/canti front out there. GT and Schwinn seem to be the biggest perpetrators (tho Schwinn did also do the U/U combo I was looking for, just hard to find).
Is it the same spacing as the weird Paul?
u-brakes are not, no
U-brakes (and WTB Rollercam and the like) use a Ø9mm post that is 16.5mm long.
Canti/V use a Ø8mm post that is 16.5mm long.
Centerpull (PAul, Mafac, Herse, Dia-Compe) use a Ø8mm post that is 10mm long.
U-brake posts are 88-90mm c-c spacing, Canti/V 78-85ish, Paul Racers spec 78mm c-c.
And they all differ on distance from axle centerline to post.
HOWEVER because lots of those brakes use bushings at the pivot, some folks have adapted say a Paul racer onto U-brake bosses via a combo of new bushing (to fit the larger Ø9mm post) and either spacers or hacksaw to take care of the U-brake post being 6.5mm longer than the 10mm post the Racer is meant to go on. There were probably spring shenanigans and I’m guessing the post spacing wasn’t optimal but on a rear rim brake whatevs.
edit found a pic. I mean, if I was making a blingy city bike out of an older Ti Merlin, I’d try this too.
Makes me ashamed to admit that I had one of those forks bitd.
we dont judge you for what outdated shit you owned or used in the past. we only judge @cousinmosquito for continuing to use aforementioned outdated shit.
every time I think of cousinmosquito I imagine him in the pith helmet with the corks on strings dangling off the brim
