Tern Sammiches

a cut down basket for shake clearance is one use, but as far as I can tell the real target market/bulk of purchasers are folks who are using Walds as bag supports. You don’t need the tall sides for the bags shown here, for instance: https://www.gravelbike.com/wald-basket-bags/

When I used a wild and a Timbuktu messenger bag with Delta cargo net clips, the clips were like Velcro on the wall the basket and it was awesome. Drop it in and you’ll have a hard time getting it out let alone having it jumble its way out. This would totally work with a half height basket too

Half height is nice when you need to carry a a pizza box or anything that needs to overhang the basket. Especially if your bars are kinda low.

Back before I was enlightened to proper width drop handlebars for my size (i.e. 65cm width bars), I could not really run a basket because of the long throw of Shimano levers. That combined with it being a pain in the ass to fly with (oh great, in addition to a rack I have to deal with this damn basket) meant it had no place on my bikes even when adjusted to fit the lever throw.

essram is a bit more forgiving there

As is campy, whilst the up levers do swing towards the basket, they are also hinged front-back so you can move them towards the frame when you are actuating them.

Another “the more I look at it, the more I hate it” build

the world’s heaviest front rack combined with a very trendy-for-2019 rackless saddle sack

a >$500 halfstep-plus-granny crank paired with a cassette that does not look conducive to halfstep shifting

yeah thanks i hate it

It’s not even half step, it’s like 7/8 step

Not to mention the stiffest frame in the world and it somehow has cantis in the year of our lord 2020.

hey hey hey, there’s still a place for canti brakes in 2020

(also those are Paul Mini-Vs, the brake everyone chooses when they think they’re too cool for canti brakes and wants to make a worse brake choice for some reason)

Saying this as a former owner of that exact model Space Horse, wondering if this is a case of “love the one you’re with” slash “I can’t quit you” kind of thing. The geo fit me well, but that thing made me swear off cantis forever.

Getting strong forest gump vibes.

But the rear hanger is still there for some reason

That rack is not only incredibly heavy, it’s incredibly useless and flexible if you load anything on the top part of the rack. When I had one I briefly considered adding even more hardware to connect the top to the fork crown but thankfully I came to my senses and sold it for the exact same amount of money I bought it for.

And yes, that is the very worst kind of bike. Expensive and stupid. And since it’s on the cool kid bikeshop Instagram everyone loves it

Obviously whoever built that bike saw that the number of dollars required for a triple groin horse crank was the biggest, and thus was the bestest

Thats the biggest light mount ever

Why does the all city have horizontal dropouts
Why are newer bikes still using that garbage?

Also, no fenders??? I don’t really care where your shop is you shouldn’t be building touring bikes with no fenders if you can help it
