Hey nu guy, how’d you find out about this place?

Are we being infiltrated by feds?

I was googling some obscure bike part and this forum was a result. I thought I was already a shining star at all internet bike forums and was horrified to learn there was one I’d never even heard of. Maybe because I’ve never ridden a track bike.

I’m still not sure wtf is going on around this place but I like the layout and general vibe. Maybe I’ll start a new thread that isn’t in the o/t section (why are all new posts in the o/t forum?).

For the record, pretty much no one here has track bikes anymore. We’re more or less an offshoot from a mass banning on bikeforums single speed/fixed gear sub in may 2008 and have created this little utopia of passionate nerds. It used to be really mean to new people in a very contrived gatekeepy way that fucking sucks but I’m happy to say that it appears we’ve finally moved beyond that.

Offtopic is very active because this place is just filled with absolute dorks and sometimes I wonder if we’ve run out of bike things to talk about

I’m not that old but I have a kid and another on the way so I wrench on my bikes and talk about my bikes more than I ride my bikes (besides daycare/school commuting).

Generally the vibe here feels like the Paceline Forums (bike nerds with good taste) but you have all accepted disc brakes into your lives.

…Hey I’m Smitty from DC. I’m new and I like bikes. For the past few years I’ve been riding and camping on my Black Mountain Cycles Road+ and commuting with my kid on my Jamis Aurora Elite. Just built up a Bassi Hog’s Back and took it on the Amtrak to Richmond for the weekend, it’s going to replace the Black Mountain as the camping bike.

I’m late but I like your black mountain. except a photo with mismatched tires and mid-shift chain falling off the big ring should be a bannable offense
