Time to start shopping for couplers?
don’t tempt me.
Here’s my Stag-avinden. Only 6.5cm of spacers. Pretty fun bike, really fast. I grew up in Seattle in the 2010’s so this and similar SIR nerd chariots were as cool as it got.
Did you ever ride with Oregon rando?
Start location Hillsboro?
nice bikes
also sitrep: the “crack” if that’s what it is has not gotten any bigger so we are still just YOLOing it.
I covered it up with a top tube pad so I don’t have to look at it.
Reminds me of law #10 from the house of god: If you don’t take a temperature, you can’t find a fever.
Did you ever ride or go camping with .83 folk? Do I know you by another name? I was in Seattle from about 2004-2017.
Nah, I’m a bit younger, was just getting into bikes in 2013 when this came out, only bought it in 2022.
Ya boy is over on IG posting AI slop.
Feels good being right.
looks like he pre-emptively blocked me at some point, which feels even better? https://www.instagram.com/rawlandcycles/
Oh yeah I’m blocked too because he’s babyshit soft. But I found a way.
Lesson learned for me, never deleting mean posts again.
I remember us hating that dude back when you all got those bikes.
Local old head is selling one
what the fuck is that description.
typical rawland owner.
The rando bike sans fenders is always strange to see.
Like this guy drew the line there? No room for velo+Orange+hammered+fenders+silver?
The general uselessness of fenders in central Virginia has been discussed ad nauseam on here previously (by me mostly), but for a recap, if it rains on a ride here between the months of April and October, it’s probably raining hard enough (and sideways) that you’re getting soaked no matter how PNW-correct your rando build is. Then after about 15-20 minutes of getting completely soaked, the rain stops, the pavement dries, and you are then riding through crushing humidity as all of the water that has evaporated off of the pavement is now lingering feet above it.
What’s winter like there? Northward here, this year for example, the pavement was wet for the entire month of February. I rode fenders to mitigate the corrosive spray.
I’d rather be wet from nice clean rain water than from rain water and all the nasty shit from the road as well.
When I was in a shop in Georgia and people pressed me on the usefulness of fenders, I’d tell them that fenders turn a miserable ride into a kind of crappy ride.
From a complete-aesthetic perspective. A decade of ogling Bicycle Quarterly inspired builds makes such bikes look unfinished and bare.
The actual utility of fenders, in most cases, is beside the point. In many places, nobody rides in the rain anyway. Where they do, such is obvious.
Winters are pretty dry here too. The road is rarely wet enough for fenders to matter. I’m not saying that fenders will be useless 100% of the time, but their utility is somewhere between “rare” and “edge case”.
