Trek as Fuck can mean a lotta things.
This is one of my favorite bikes on this site. Props.
I feel the need to +1 this

I’ve learned a great deal about bicycle engineering in the past couple years and in doing so, I’ve gained a new respect for the mass-market carbon racing bike. These things get a lot of engineering attention and generally turn out right as a result.

Also, more good news from Trek is that they’re abandoning paired-spoke wheels in 2010. Rolf Dietrich must be crying himself to sleep on his giant pile of money.

as do most everything else in the range

Fuck yes. I hate truing paired spoke wheels. I have a set of Bontragers downstairs that I would rather didn’t exist. Fucking heavier than OPs, too.

It’s not just the truing, it’s the fact that the high tension of the paired spokes was cracking rims all over the place. So many over the past year or two that Trek has literally been out of wheels for months, all because of warrant issues. Apparently someone at Trek finally came to his senses and realized that it was time to cut their losses with Rolf and his pair-spoke “technology” they paid so much for, and just start shipping standard 28 and 32 spoke wheels.

no good pictures of mine yet

Things that are getting better over time: shifters, derailers, cranks

things that are getting worse over time: wheels, headsets

mmmmmmmmmmm

i wanna build a nice sport touring bike with a newer component mix on a vintage trek very badly

a friend of mine recently got his trek 420 stolen. hasnt seen it since.

I love the seat clusters on some models of old treks. So much love.

what do you mean by ‘made to order in waterloo by hand’? pretty sure the frames are made in asia. (though they make all the other carbon frames, so they must be good at it). and made to order means it’s gonna cost you $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. also the ‘oclv’ carbon is hokey, why don’t they just say what kind of carbon it is?

edit: Every 6 Series Madone is built with Trek’s highest-performance and most sophisticated carbon fiber – OCLV Red, which uses a significant percentage of high modulus carbon fiber arranged according to our most complex lay-up schedules.

I need to get current pictures.

why say anything if you don’t know what the hell you are talking about?

You don’t have any idea what you are talking about. Several of my coworkers have personally been to the Trek factory in Waterloo and seen middle-aged women laying up layers of carbon fiber in molds, making Madones. Any modicum of research you bothered to do would have confirmed this, but don’t let that stop you.

Trek doesn’t make frames for other companies. Most of their overseas frames are made by Kenesis. I don’t know who makes their low-end carbon frames, but probably Giant.

ignore my previous post, whatever. but there was a ice 2200 in the shop today, early lugged carbon frame with older campy. it twas nice.

that orange 660 w/ cosmics is hot fiyah.

I always wanted an 80’s 720 though:
