It’s hard to compare them to the 100g lighter Schwalbe Super Swans that I took off, but they were way faster on pavement than what I was expecting. Hopefully I’ll get them dirty this weekend.
They measured 37.1mm on the stock TCX rims which are 19mm inner/23mm outer.[/quote]
looks great! i think i’m going to go ahead and grab one to throw on the front of my cross bike. seems like an even better fast conditions tire than the cross boss, the more serious cornering knobs look like they’d be a welcomed improvement
Not to derail too hard, but I’ve been meaning to post this for about a month.
My coworker bought a Slate, and immediately swapped tires. From the past buzz on Tarck, I thought I’d give them a go on the Tachyon. Bought them and rode them a bit, got LITERALLY 60 miles out of the rear.
Not to be a killjoy but these tires aren’t the answer to Tarck’s prayers by a longshot. Rubber is mega thin overall, construction paper is thicker than the sidewalls on these shoes. I had them set up tubeless, and only had easy street miles on them. They took about 2 weeks of pump and spin to set up properly, longest any tire has taken me. Gripped ok, but nothing to write home about. I swapped them out for the Maxxis Re-fuse 650bx2.0 and fell in love with that tire. Rolls great, boat load of stick, nice and round profile, and set up tubeless with a regular floor pump.
Needless to say I give the Slate tire 1 tipped over trashcan out of 10. I have them both in case anyone wanted to do some mad scientist experiments on them (Fred?), will send just the good one or both for cost of ship. Has some Stans residue and frustration vibes still lingering.
Nah dog, we found the answer to Tarck’s prayers, and it’s the WTB Horizon (though Braden disagrees). I honestly forgot that Cannondale was even making a nerd tire, now.

fucking panaracer!
are these out of the same mold as the Pari-Moto “42” but with less rubber and wider casing?
Hold the phone… I don’t hate on the Horizons one bit and I’ll be happy to have them when I do gapco next month. I don’t think they are the magic bullet to render all other nerd tires obsolete either though. I would still opt for a compass tire for long fast rides that are 75% pavement, which sadly enough is what we have to deal with around here.
I still love switchback hill EL. Next great hope for me is the Spec road plus offering though it looks like they are gonna be total turds based on the 700c offering.
I’ve been meaning to ask if anyone has tried these. These are about the cheapest fat 650b tyres we can get on prison island, but hadn’t read a single review yet. Any further feedback? I still have to finish off a set of Hetres then a set Babbyshoes, but the Refuse are on my list…

I would never ever tubeless any model of Compass tires for a customer

They’re pretty awesome, and I haven’t found a reason to complain yet. Puncture resistance seems pretty solid. The main area is a nice thick patch of rubber that lends itself to predictable traction on dirt and balloons comfortably on streets to not drag too much. I’ve put about 200 miles on them and they show little wear, so I would expect some decent life out of them. If you’re down with the tubeless then set up real easily. Bead is well defined and the sidewalls have enough meat to lend some trust in their future. i liked them enough that I bought the 700x32 version and set them up tubeless on my nerdavinden.
Fred, I think they are based on that mold, but with about a teaspoons worth of fucks to give in materials.
So I love the ride of the compass Bon Jovis, but they tubeless pretty shitty. It’s my first go with tubeless, and I love everything except the leaky sidewalls. By the end of d2r2, all the sealant was gone.
Is there a better solution in a similar size and with similar ride characteristics?
Fwiw, had those ocean air jawns before this and never flatted once. But a lil turdly on pavement for what I seek.
Ive never ridden any compass offerings, being a shop bro I go the ep route and end up on big brand rubber. I want to assume the EL offerings are better since I got 60 miles out of mine and I doubt Heine’s chic baggage is just full of fresh bike shoes.
