Velo Orange saddles

536g? No thank you.

Now that´s more of a problem. Sure, you can use brakes on non-machined rims, but that kind of straight up misinformation is pretty shitty.

was going to order the sun cr18 from them since i need a 36h low profile rim. still cant decide between that and like a mavic open sport

I’d go with the latter, hands down.

FWIW, I’ve been riding a set of open sports close to 4 yrs and still haven’t even had to true them. I built them up by hand, which prob helps, but I’d definitely buy the same rims in the future. Can’t beat them for the $.

Yep. Weak.

I’m currently dealing with the biggest pain in the ass eBay deal of all time, and I’m in a mood to say fuck off to merchants who don’t try to be honest about their products. …but there’s still a few things I need from VO. Fuck.

Just go with Brooks unless you desperately want something that looks like a Swallow and can’t afford it… Few products are more tried and tested.

ive had no problems ordering from VO online.
although one time I called to ask a question because their email response was shockingly devoid of any information.
the guy answered with “yeah?” and sounded like he was getting a blow job or smoking a joint
and could not give a fuck about my inquiry. who knew that retrogrouches liked to party at work?

Seen their photos of these get-togethers with god-knows-who and their berets, baguettes and petanque?

Who’d expect attitude out of those douches?

I also haven’t had any problems ordering online from VO, and bought a fair amount of their stuff over the years. It’s too bad to hear that people are having shitty experiences with them. I would hazard a guess that as they are getting to be a higher volume retailer, they may be losing some control over customer service. I really like VO and hope they manage to get their shit together.

That would be my guess, as well, Mander. When they first started up the owner answered my emails several times and was really helpful. They even gave me free shipping on a bunch of stuff after I left some good comments on the Yahoo merch thing. Sometimes expansion can fuck up a good thing.

buncha dorks

Did anyone here end up getting those 700c box section rims, the PBP or whatever? If so what was your impression?

I got 'em. Gonna lace to some Mack hubs this weekend.

The rims look mighty nice.

I have a friend that works at VO and also have ordered from them several times. I have to say, they’re a small shop with a few people doing a lot of business and trying to be personable. Most of the time, things go well, but sometimes they don’t, which requires some patience.

I’ve placed 4 orders over the past three or so years. No problems here. I like 'em a bunch.

i’ve had no issues with them

i think their customer service is top notch to be honest. I’ve never had a problem. I do find it more effective to call them then emailing. You can always get Chris or Annette on the phone.

These saddles have a pretty bad reputation among enthusiasts and people who know what they’re talking about - I’ve encountered some bad things about them in their blog comments and on a few other boards I occasionally skim. I think that’s why, as they announced today, they’re be separating their brand name from their company name. I don’t think that they want a single bad product like the saddle (there may be more, I don’t know) to sink a multi-million dollar small business.

As for the photos with the berets, it was painfully obvious that it was tongue-in-cheek. Most of the bikes I’ve seen them post, the ones that they ride, and definitely bikes I could kick it with.

Did not know VO was kickwithitable. Lot of effort to go through for a funny pic, but it worked I guess even if I assumed they were impossibly douchey for real.

That article about VO branding their saddles under a different name made it out to be to be a marketing decision, not a quality control issue. Of course, I’m only familiar with the saddle or their reputation, with no experience with them. But from a branding standpoint, the article made sense to me.
