Velo Orange saddles

Has anyone tried the Velo Orange Brooks knockoffs, especially the #6? It’s a lot cheaper than the Swift or Swallow, and it looks comparable.

i plan on buying one oneday

as do i

i think patch mabey said something about that too?

we all just wait for someone else to buy and say nice

i will be buying it for my new build as well… will not be able to tell you how it rides till next year though. Lol

hopefully getting one for christmas.

its the only thing im askin for.

I have one. I like it. Never had the equivalent so can’t compare.

I’d like to see a better picture of how the flaps are held together on the #6. I see rivets, but nothing actually holding the flaps together, like the metal plate on the bottom of a Swallow.

its 2 flaps and rivets

oh you mean you want to see what is under that bar…
its gotta be something…

that picture makes me wonder how long before this thing starts sagging.

I don’t see why it’d be any more prone to sagging than a Brooks. I guess that’s what the tension adjustment thingy is for.

well if they sucked vo seems like the kinda guys to admit it.
because they did admit it for one of the saddles, fixed it, and now sells them.

with Brooks though, the running gag seems to be that the tensioning bolt is a total joke. no one uses it, and when they do, it makes things worse. I’ve never needed to use it on mine, so I wouldn’t know first hand. But if it’s pointless on a Brooks, then it’s probabaly pointless on a VO too. There’s a metal plate riveted across the flaps of a Swallow, that’s what keeps the saddle firm. Without that provision on the VO, the lifespan of the saddle would be shorter, I would gather.

same life as a swift but with less flair up in the center?

I thought so too, but FYI - ordered a wheelset from them, came totally untrue and untensioned, they have hung me out to dry on it. Simply ignoring my emails notifying them of the issue. So, don’t believe stuff like their return policy should you have any problems… you’re on your own once they have their money. Very disappointing, totally out of character with their “soulful” marketing.

Their marketing is embarassingly stupid.

Velocipede Salon was rambling on about how they suck too.
I just wanna see some cheaper classic looking mafac brakes and their accompanying front rack.

What’s the difference between the rivets holding leather to leather or holding two peices of leather to a metal plate?
Maybe I’m missing something here.

I’d KINDA be worried about the rivet ripping/tearing/stretching out of the leather… but that might/would happen no matter what it’s rivetted to. I laced my Brooks, but strongly considering cutting it, and riveting or tieing two flaps of leather like the VO saddle. Possibly this weekend.

While their response is disheartening, receiving wheels out of true or undertensioned from an internet vendor is basically the norm. For many of us it’s something that can be fixed at home while kicking back a beer, and for the rest it’s cheaper to have the LBS deal with the problem than try to ship it back to VO. If wheels showing up like that is unacceptable to you, I suggest buying in person from a store where you can make sure the wheels are properly built before you hand over the cash.

They claimed the rims on their fixed wheelset were machined when they’re not.

I’ll still order from them, but their level of knowledge doesn’t seem that much higher than the crap they write for their customers.
