Weird Build Dithering Thread Infinity: Part 2

Wrong thread

If I swapped the stem and seatpost to this silver Ritchey stuff that don’t match the polished rims it’s going to look awful and I should just stick with black, right?

Yeah, i’d leave it all black rather than silver.

The silvers will look fine together atmo and you can always change it back if you don’t like it.

As long as the post and stem match then it doesn’t matter if the rims don’t match :atmo:

I think silver parts would look great

I’d agree. If stem/post match, it’s fine.

If you really want the polished look, and are very sure about length/rise, you could get one of those Nitto Simworks stems:

I don’t know if it already got discussed elsewhere, but apparently Shimano is doing the +1 speed 105 HG cassette trick again, but now with a 12 speed 11-36, the HG-710-12. I think that and a Ratio ratchet upgrade will be the ideal fit for this project.

I have Ferg’s SRAM Red group I want to put on this (old Stowe I got coupled and powder coated yellow many years ago). The group does not include rim brakes.

I hate the yellow at this point. Can I spray paint over powder, maybe leaving some yellow for logo or something? And if I wanted to get the Ali fake ee brakes in TAF Miami vice ano, what would go with that? Or just say fuck it and build it yellow with whatever (some black SRAM let’s say) brakes.

Would plastic formulated spray paint stick to
powder coat better?

Yes

Yea you can spray over powder. You should take like a ~300 grit sandpaper and lightly scuff the powder, making sure to wipe the dust clean. You can get a dust cloth that could be helpful.

I have some black rival brakes that I could sell

Yeah, as long as you rough up the surface you’re gonna paint then you should be good to go

I kinda wanna build up an actually nice bike for 99% of the riding I do.

Do I go with a Coffee Grinder or Night Moves? Searchlight fork is gonna go on either one.

About me:

-Not exactly flexible
-I am a skinny boy
-Already have multiple slow bikes (this rules out H/G even though it’s the best)
-Probably gonna do 650b but maybe it’s time I admit that small wheels are not the end-all-be-all
-Gonna ride it to work and on overnight camping trips.

What say ye?

nite moves :atmo:

Welp that is all the convincing I need. Should be purchased and built by 2030!

What is your dangler? Apparently the mtb one’s cages graft onto the gravgrav ones easily. Just like a ratio solution. If you can find an MTB dangler with a rooted clutch in your LBS bin then give it a go.

It’s the Force 1 mid cage. It’s on a road bike, so an 11-36 with good tooth gaps (and ideally an extra cog) made by Shimano checks as many boxes as trying to eke out an 11s 11-40 with a new cage. Bigger than that doesn’t belong on this bike.

Funny enough I’m poring over the dangler wrangling thread trying to figure out if either ratio ratchet (road/axs vs wide/eagle) will go well with the 12s Shimano cassette, or if I am fully in fool’s errand territory.

Oh yeah. That’s what I am using actually. The “range” of the cage is fully in the cage, as it were. I have 11-40 XTR on my road wheels and 11-50 on my off-road. 11 speed tho. Wasnt ready to jump to 12 cos freehubs etc and a bunch of cassettes in 11 speed still very much alive. 36, 40, 42, 46, 50.

Ratio said there was a difference tween sram and Shimano but I can’t recall if it was road or wide. I think I did share it there on the dangler page. Certainly my mtb buddies mix it all up at the wide range end .

This thing has been for sale at the local bike collective for months and months now and it’s tempting to buy it for a clyde conversion even though I don’t even really need that. Looks like a mostly stock '99 Hardrock Classic.

Looks like a perfect candidate for a Clyde atmo

I’m doing mine this weekend coz bored

It really does seem ideal, only problem is if it’s big enough. We’ll see if I can resist a test ride when I go pickup some online purchases on Saturday.
