Weird Build Dithering Thread Infinity: Part 2

@anon3547885 Are the canti posts original to the frame? centre to centre spacing? If they’re vintage narrow ones that will inform your brake choice somewhat.

Ox2-901d chat reminded me to check pricing on the dixna 110/74 cranks from japanese amazon, unsurprisingly, they’re still cheap. They are also available down to 130mm in length which is making me want to experiment on myself with unusually short cranks.

If you’re set on going new-age Campy, go Veloce 10sp for these reasons:

  • It works really really well. Toured thousands of miles without any issues at all.
  • Easy to install - 11sp needs a peening tool for chain, the rear derailleur installs from the backside for some god-awful reason, and is quite finicky to adjust.
  • Cheap now
  • Has 99% of the looks of 11sp.
  • Campy cred with actual function

You can thank me later.

lol no

It’s fine, but Ultegra it is not.

Okay fine y’all

Rene Herse cranks
Rene Herse cantis

Provided both work with the frame. Am I going to have trouble shifting 46/30 with a Campagnolo derailleur or what considerations should I think about

Should I change my name to MisterBates? I don’t really recumbent except in emergencies

Counterpoint: I killed a set of 10sp veloce shakes in under 10k km of commuting.

DQ: There’s a perfect Campagnolo Racing T groupset on E-Bay right now.

I assume I could use the derailleurs and sharters from that with a 9 speed cassette and a Rene Herse 46/30? There’s nothing special about the levers that would make them only useful for a triple?

No, there is nothing different between triple and double Campagnolo levers. Any Campagnolo derailleur should work, but I would probably find one designed for their later compact cranks, which shouldn’t be too hard. If you don’t mind mixing brands, the Shimano CX70 is a silver pusher designed specifically to work with smaller rings and operates my 46/30 crank flawlessly (when paired to Campagnolo 11-speed levers).

I just bought your dumb crazy bars for my Jones

Backing Igor. The ultra-shift Veloce shakes were pretty stout. The set that lived on my cross bike for a few years are still going strong after being passed to at least two more owners.

I’m looking at this stuff
https://www.rockwestcomposites.com/plates-panels-angles/carbon-fiber-plate

to build a step for my kid so she can get into the cargo bike more easily. I’m using carbon because it’s lighter.

saw dumb crazy bars in the wild yesterday
sup was like “what the shit is that?”

high mod? gotta go high mod

I want the Kevlar reinforced stuff for added stepping power.

Just to be clear, if I just got a longjohn cargo bike and am still a few hundred bucks and dozen hours from having it finished, that’s definitely the best time to also buy a used Soma Tradesman off eBay, right?

EDIT: Also to set up an Alfine group for the first time too, and maybe find a local powdercoater to redo the frame?

As someone who buys and sells lots of bikes, why do you want two cargo bikes?

You think I only have one now?

Given the 20% off deals I am seeing all this weekend (I don’t work in the bike industry and can’t get cost…) I am looking at buying some hubs for a single speed build.

Phil Wood, White’s, Paul, Profile or something else? The Russian made ‘Raketa’ hubs also are priced right and look like low-flange Phil Wood. http://shop.russianraketa.com

Any others there to look at?
