I have a DT hugi on gf’s m2. It has the slowest loudest freehub ever. Makes it easy to keep track of where she is
someone here has turned some of these to be regular non-disc hubs

Pretty sure you can still find those ultegra to open pros that were everywhere for awhile. Would look rad and have the right spacing. Also, cup and cone to scratch that self service itch.
i’m over cup and cone tbh.
dt swiss 350 is ultimate self service. wipe and put grease in every ??? months. done. i’m at 8 years with not-insignificant mileage and it’s butter smooth. i’d gladly pay a shop every decade for new bearings and i worked for a long time as a bike mechanic

My pandemic build has a 350 I bought at 130 cause no disk mount and I got the cups to space it 350
Oh I 1000% agree with you, but @Orloved seems to be rather fond of older gen objects.
I only build dt350 on everything, so damn smooth and reliable.

This is making me request an agreed definition of kludge
Which is a non insignificant portion of the bicycles on this forum. Not that it’s a bad thing we just make things work with things that are not designed to work with another.
Any parts bin build could be labeled as a kludge.

Hamfisting a too big a hub into a frame which while it fits the definition of a kludge is more like tomfoolery or shenanigans or idgaf I just want to ride it. All of these things are OK.

this thread is supposed to be a safe space for kludging
ATMO an electrical conduit bender works great for cold setting. That lets you put the stress away from any dimples or bridges. Go slow, like 1/2mm at a time, rotating around the four stays. Threaded rod is strictly bush league

That’s how I’ve kludged my last two bikes with various degrees of imprecision.
