You dudes are killing my stoke levels on these 685s I’m installing…
What’s the problem, the hoods? edit : duh forgot this thread was hudchat
I didn’t ride them very far, but I think within the last week and a half I have actually ridden all of my bikes. And I put lowriders and a Looney bin on my 9zero7, so I’m going to try riding that to work for a little while.

atmo same as soma
What? No way. That’s actually incredible that someone made this.
I assumed that erock just had one custom made.
…and of course you can always get a heavy duty one from Haulin Colin / Cyclefab Kit if you desire a rack that mounts from the frame instead of the pokes

They seem pretty rad. I’ll know better once I ride it, but it was cheap enough to take the plunge and definitely the cheapest route to cycle truckdom. Also, Matt, the dude that helped start the company hand delivered the fork to me in Brooklyn AND sold me a new SP dynamo hub for 65.00 because of a shipping fiasco…which wasn’t that bad. Very cool dude.
Dude, don’t worry. They’re great!

215 shipped vs. 600 plus whatever shipping is. The rack bed on the haulin’ colin is bigger but I think the clydesdale could be built out to accommodate a larger load. The haulin colin also looks like more of a cycle truck, with the clydesdale looking really bizarre which I kind of dig.
Yeah totally, they are designed to handle different loads and corner differently. It would be fun to ride them back to back with equivalent loads to see how the flop & noodleness feels. The crust version solves the one thing I don’t really like about my Cyclefab Cycletruck: bars/cables hitting cargo for taller loads. The Crust would allow you to use your bars as an additional strap down point.
Yeah, I just thought about that yesterday. I can’t wait to have this thing together! I’ve had to buy more shit for this build than any other. Still will only be around 650-700 complete.
Dude, don’t worry. They’re great!
Exactly this, the braking is totally phenomenal and leaves nothing to be desired, and if you get baggy hoods eventually no big, just gotta sink another few bucks

Backing this. FWIW mine don’t have any issues with baggy hoods. Must be luck of the draw.
New hoods arrived today.
- Buy Shimano hydro brifters
- Buy replacement hoods at same time from absolutely anywhere
- Cut originals off with shears
- Douse internal of new hoods liberally with isopropyl and rank them on mercilessly until they go on.
- One second later: profit
Save yourself the heartache. Just do this. The shipped with hoods are bullshit. This whole dumb thing is fading from memory so fast I might not get thro…
Also: thanks lucasz. Solid advice.
Shimano always makes running changes. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to find out that they changed the hoods after everyone’s started slipping.
Oh man, should I put one of them crust cargo forks on my xtracycle? I’ve been planning on building a new dyno front for it and I have a spare disk dyno hub on my bench because I’m bad at counting how many holes are in things.
The crust fork makes me wonder - is it good enough to have the weight low instead of low and attached to the frame? It would be nice to separate the cargo weight from the steering, so I’m not super stoked on the crust for that reason. Plus not sure it would work right with my existing basket bike. We need reviews!
The dude Matt said he toured around Japan with it. I haven’t heard anything bad about them yet. We’ll see!
Load is notably also closer to the steering axis w/ crust fork vs most fork mount racks.
Yes, you should
Yes, you should
yes that would be rad!
I want a commuter that rides like a normal bike with the wheelbase of a normal bike but can carry an extra person when needed. Will the crust pokes do this?
