Lol sounds like all my bikes all the time.
yeah, I am starting to swing back towards being a little more proactive with maintanence again. Most of my bikes are in the āworks ok if you remember how each bikeās shifting is slightly weird or broken, and that not all brakes will stop the bike so much as discourage further accelerationā stage of things.
I put a new chain on my sport touring bike the other day, and then realized that in an act of radical genius, I didnāt check the cassette. Middle cogs totally shark toothed, spent a 4 hour ride remembering to stay out of them. Booooo.
Also, there are no spare parts for bikes! Everything is getting used to gussy up long-unridden bikes that have now been drafted into being corona chariots! Not convenient!
Yeah but isnāt chitown wet all the time?
Itās pretty dry here so I was surprised by the rust. Itās all good, we framesaver now.
It me. Loaning bikes to visitors was good motivation to have at least one bike that just works as expected.
Proper bike maintenance is for NERDS
On a related note, for the first time ever I hosed down my bike after a ride. Usually I consider a filthy bike a point of pride.
So itās been approximately 12 years since I had a fixed gear so today I went to the park and practiced skidding in the gravel
I had to pull and clean the Wheels Mfg PF30a BB out of the SuperSixTownie, today. Itās only been in there for about 18 months with relatively light use, but it started creaking. I guess I should plan on doing this fairly regularly, since the threads are right-handed. Iām not really sure how it would work any other way. Either the drive cup loosens with left-handed, or the nondrive cup loosens with right-handed.
The allroad bike got a new saddle from the fitter, new brake pads, and cleaned pistons.
I also accidentally knelt on my tube of carbon paste and squirted half the tube on the floor.
Iām not saying I put Eagle and a power meter on the Big Dummy today⦠ok⦠I am saying put Eagle and a power meter on the big dummy today.
Partially installed a Box Two 11-46 11s group on my bikepacking bike. I thought I could reuse the derailleur housing, but it was cracked in a few places so I can wait a few days and replace it.
Got a pair of those swept back ritchey bars coming in tomorrow for the same bike. This bike is gonna feel totally different.
I may or may not have had a powermeter on the edgerunner while I worked for stages.
Thatās okay if it was a stages it probably didnāt even work.
Oooh, Is this the āwhat Powermeter should I buyā thread?
Is there anything good that isnāt stupid
?
We have a Kickr on loan right now and Iām getting excited about the power data
A used power2max is the thinking manās SRM.
Typically (since I worked there) all my stages powermeters work fine. I also never used a Garmin, which often was an exacerbating factor. I will say that the most recent models with updated electronics seem to be a lot better than the initial stages.
Are the pedal power meters any good? Theyāre far too expensive but I have considered the crazy (read: stupid) idea of having two sets on the tandem with a real-time comparative visualization so we could synchronize our power output and become maximally efficient. Maybe I need to smoke less weed tho smh
My opinion is that directly measuring and comparing myself with my wife is not a good idea, in any context.
I guess if you already have too much money and you want to spend more of it thatās a good idea.
Itās mostly a thought experiment and not applicable to our level of riding, but like do they do this on race tandems to measure and optimize efficiency? Weāve both noticed that if weāre not putting in effort at the same times its way harder than a single bike, but that the opposite is also true, and Iām trying to chase the synchronicity.
if your powermeter was in the Stokerās DS chainrings or the rear hub, the data would reflect only the teamās effort
Thatās a bit stink. Did you need to buy a bunch of tools for the installation? I was wondering about one of those for my bike.
