But Light Bicycle is doing semi-aero 650b with or without hooks now. So…
I got 590 if that means anything.
which models have you built?

That helps. The rim hasn’t arrived yet and I’m getting spokes for it.
DQ: For 650b tubeless dithering rims, I would like either silver or some sort of dark gray. Red would also be acceptable.
Velocity Blunt SS polished silver 32h i26.6 395g (+ needs some kit to convert to tubeless?)
Spank Oozy 295 (or maybe one of their other rims -anyone have experience with these?)
RaceFace Arc gray 32h i27 425g
Chinacarbon (could be considered dark gray I guess)
dithering rims in 650b, how about “Portland Grey”?
I think I’m setting up an account to try them out.
I’ve got some Light Bicycle rims headed my way soonish and I’m making better wheels for my Xtracycle after that, dunno when my next Astral-relevant build is going to happen. I’d be curious what people think of them, in particular if they’re worth the 300% premium over DT alloy rims.
24&28h drilling on alloy 650b is hard to find and limited in selection
+$150 upcharge for any of the non-black colors is a deal killer for those Astral Cycling rims.
shit that astral rim might be perfect for this cx front wheel i need to rebuild. cheaper and lighter than belgium+, cheaper than light bicycle? is it just gonna be extremely shitty? what am i missing?
their inner widths are so 5 years ago
i thought u guys hated rolfs
lol i thought that hate was over the paired spokes and not the rims (unless i’m missing the joke)
it is true i would prefer 23mm internal
I’ve heard good things
just don’t buy velocity if you can help it
Gotta build a new 650b dyno wheelset for my Elephant
thinking about this 320g option, maybe in 24h: https://www.lightbicycle.com/XC-650B-mountain-bike-hookless-27mm-wide-cross-country-rim-tubeless-compatible.html
another option would be some combo of https://www.notubes.com/crest-mk3-rims and https://www.notubes.com/arch-mk3-rims to take advantage of the BST fit for using using compass tires tubeless
has anyone built up any of them?
Fwiw the compass tires seem to like the hooked bead light bicycle uses.
These are 380g, deeper, and hooked.
I’m planning getting some of these next time I order.
But to answer your question… I have built some crest mk3. Less fussy and better finish quality than previous versions.
so stans rims are good now? didn’t realize the crests were so light.
