Tarck: I need a thing
Other tarck: try this reasonable suggestion
Tarck: noooooooooooo
comes with a little packet of nikwax goop in fact! you can get more or get sno-seal, but really only if you wanna party hard
I put Obenaufs LP on my BD gloves, but that’s also what I put on my boots.
i might just join you here. they’ve looked nice to me for some time
Post cannot be empty
I like the Black and Tan of those gloves. Reminds me of gum wall tires.
cross country ski gloves are 3x warmer and 50% cheaper than any of these options
and they come organized by temperature so you just select the right glove out of your glove bag (yes I have a glove bag) and you win.
swix gloves are the best ones
I have Swix gloves for off-road riding, because they’re machine washable.
For road riding, I am back on lobster claws after several seasons using trigger mittens. My index finger gets too cold out there on its own.
Oh man those do look good, I would order a pair but they are probably overkill for Texas!
Greetings fellow hambikers.

What tire pressure gauge do I want so I can accurately get low-low pressures? Etiquette on the groomed trails around here is 4psi unless things are really packed and frozen solid.

Pogies! I see three major variations. Is there a preferred version?
A. Nylon shell with ribbed knit cuff opening.
B. Nylon shell/fleece liner without a knit cuff (seems easier to get your hands in and out?)
B.2 At least one version has a drawstring sphincter cuff

C. Flatter constuction (maybe neoprene) more like BarMitts.
- Feets: Right now I’m planning on flat pedals w/ waterproof boots+fat socks. Maybe actual winter boots + gaiters if it’s deep. Any compelling reason to go to clipless+winter cycling shoes?
im not a hambiker but
id go with the barmitt version, synching the ends does nothing for me, as the air is moving over and past the open end
i prefer boots withs flats because those extra few nano seconds to plant foot on a slip are valuable
I have one of these and it seemed to work pretty good

Also agree not to get any drawstring closures on the pogies. It’s good to be able to pull your hand out for whatever reason and then be able to get back to your controls without having to completely stop one handed lol
man I miss real winter biking
I would not use pogies that have a cuff made of anything absorbent if there’s any chance of precipitation at all. I like the neoprene version for commuting use. Atmo, the point of pogies is to keep the wind chill off your hands and don’t need to be particularly insulated themselves. I’ve used neoprene pogies down to -20f with medium weight gloves underneath and I’m a cold hands and feet person.
Also, I chased the winter SPD dragon for years but it just isn’t worth it. Just use flats and boots.
@lithium69420 you’re a yooper what do you use?
Snowmobile
The best piece of gear so far has been a merino wool buff. Can cover your whole head, mouth and nose, just the neck, etc. Something I never knew existed before I lived here but is now essential to me.
Maybe also this:
Rides in my backpack in sub-zero weather and the coffee is still too hot to drink after a 90 minute ride.
My wife bought one of these for me a couple years ago
After @Blakey ? Got me one for secret scantron
Anyone got some favorite winter bibs?
I’ve been using whatever I got on sale 3 years ago.
Waterproof stuff made for cycling would be good too. I’ve killed two sets of Arc’teryx rain pants and it hurts too much to do it again.
Castelli! Most of it is really good, random pieces don’t work for me. They have a billion designs, pick one, it should work
i irrationally hate having things on my neck so i have never and will never do this
