Your bike is dead. Don't cry or yell at me

also, all the front rack bolts were hand tight.

thank you for yet again validating my decision to buy a steerer cutting guide ~12 years ago.

seriously. I cut so many steerertubes just using an old bmx stem as a flat surface. $40 is well worth every straight cut.

The best part is that they are very likely to have complained to each other about you*

*based on my experience working with retail service employees who fuck shit up for custies

well really they should have complained in the back room, and then had somebody else check it over before it went out because that’s normal to do.

I stand by my position.

Looks like a good time for one of these:

They are recessed on the underside to allow the steerer tube to be a bit proud of the stem.

nope. carbon calls for steerer above the top. clamping stuff in this fashion, the clamping forces go out at ~45 degrees either way and if it’s too close to the end you can run into problems when there isn’t enough runout to let the forces run their course, or at least that’s my understanding.

i do think more top caps should be that way just a little tho. i often have to run too much extra spacer to dial it right since most top caps stick down a little bit in the steerer area

Hmmm I didn’t think about that. I couldn’t find any info on the Spork (this is a spork, right?).

Ritchey allows for their expander plug (which sits directly on top of the steerer) to be up to 3mm below the top of the stem for carbon steerers.

All crap luck aside… Install the bung in the hole and yolo.

yeah I just pulled the stem up as a level surface to show how not straight the cut was. there’s plenty of room above the stem for my tastes, because I finally smartened up and told them to leave 10mm when I knew I only needed 5mm.

Am I the only one using a pipe cutter?

That’s about the tolerance of a Park steerer cutter guide. It’s not like they’re parting it on a lathe.

It’s enough to make the plug bind up weirdly though. I think that might be why the big gap between plug and steerer.
