Thanky kindly!
(PS, I did look into Wald. Out of stock in black everywhere except the UK, didn’t feel like paying Brexit import fees, and prefer the attachment set up on the Blackburn.)

Yeah, that does look like a pretty cool racksket.
It might feel a little weird at first if you’re switching back and forth between different bikes, but you’ll also get used to that pretty quickly.
If I ride something not low trail (and loaded) for a while, switching back to something like that causes me to weave all over the place like someone doing a DUI for about a mile or two. That’s a more extreme case than you’ll have.
When I first got my bakfiets, I rode it exclusively for a few months and when I finally threw a leg over a regular bike again I almost crashed because the handling felt so weird.
I had a Bike at Work trailer for awhile, they tow pretty good but you really feel that weight once you point it up hill
Those trailers are only rated to 300lbs. LIAR
this is so great. I get giddy every time I see a new company using a setup like this.
If they get some money to burn, its worth the upgrade to a Carla trailer. They’re 3 wheeled and have an overrun brake, two features that I would never do without after having them available.
Nice!!
The wonders of what the flat Chicago landscape allows!
So the Carla trailer has brakes? How do you actuate them?
Yep the two rear wheels have a brake that is actuated by a mechanism that engages when the trailer pushes into the tow bar. The brakes don’t slow the bike down but they do keep the trailer from pushing the back of the bike out of the way.
The only pic I can find of the mechanism is of a broken one
But also they’re really nice people. Here’s me at their hq in Germany.
Did you have to fly there to get the parts you needed to fix said brakes?
Wow that mechanism is so clever! It’s way simpler than I imagined.
It was the only way to source the things I needed, but I happened to be a 20 minute train ride away anyway
It’s pretty similar to something I saw on a UHaul trailer one time, but I had no idea you could adapt it to a bike trailer
It’s common on larger trailers esp when a vehicle isn’t equipped with trailer brake wiring.
This is what I was imagining. The pusher/puller mechanism is so much cooler! Use the momentum of the trailer to pull a cable or push a piston!
There is also a hydraulic version from a few companies. Really cool stuff
I believe that’s how rental trailers like U-Haul work also
FWIW on deth machine trailers those jeans are called surge brakes.
