You're gunna hurt yourself: Carry Shit Olympics (aka the Cargo Bike thread)

After listening to you guys whine about how omnium is wrong for the time I think minimax is probably the longest cycletruck before a longjohn is necessary. Tell me why not I guess

I’ve never ridden one, almost bought one. Basically why bother with steering linkage and related complexity if all you need is to stick a bucket on your bike, and why limit yourself to a high flat platform if you think you might want to carry kids, kegs, or both.

I’m not going to carry kids or kegs

When do kids weigh 35 lbs? Maybe a dog in a Rubbermaid?

My 4.5 yr old is 35lbs

My 5 y.o is ~45 lbs., feels like 45kilos some days.

Then get a tradesman? Or go baller and get a Sherpa from Bilenky, it’s what the mini ax was based on

I don’t want to go baller I want something I’m going to buy for $1200+partsbin and sell in 2-3 years

Oooh I’m gonna do this, thanks Squirrel~!

ever the innovator. i love it!

I mean if a minimax seems cool, go for it. For a cheap entry into this kind of bike, Raleigh Lorry with bin parts is a cheap way to do it

edit: I’ll say again that there’s nothing wrong with a Minimax, and if it’s what your heart wants nobody seems to hate them and to my knowledge there’s no categorical flaw with the design. I read through about 100 pages of lfgss’ cargo thread last week, and the Bullitt is definitely their preferred bike, but the Minimax definitely seems popular too. Lots of good setup ideas over there if you go that way. I mean, I almost bought one off of a local dude here, but it was too small for me.

We have a spare jumbo at my office and I keep wanting to put it on my Clydesdale but don’t think it will fit. This is perfect!

Which kickstand should I get for minimax? Jumbo or classic?

Could have thrown this all in the van but nah

~90 pounds of sparkling water + beer + pasta in the trailer, and a bottle of sake up front to balance the load.

Looks like you’re ready for dinner!

minivelo cycletruck-ish bike from Orbea. Looks like you’re limited to their basket, but for $650 might not be a terrible option. Sturmey archer hub? v brakes? alu frame? seems like they’re heading in a bunch of different directions with this thing.

Besides slightly better handling, what does that do that an 80s mtb/hybrid with a basket strapped to a rack does for half the price? If you’re going dedicated cargo, it should be able to really carry a ton imo.

Yeah that’s more minivelo with a slightly larger than Wald basket.

it can also come stock with Shimano hydraulic discs and a dynamo hub for $800

and they make a nicely packaged e-bike version too
