2025 a year in bikes

post your 2025 bike goals here. we can check back and do a roundup at the end of the year.

my goal is to get fit enough to finish the Marji Gesick 50 mile MTB race.

I’ll need a MTB, and a lot of training and MTB practice because I don’t MTB. any suggestions appreciated.

You’ve probably ridden parts already, but watch this video, they rode the 100-miler and it looks excruciating. I was impressed.

I just want to ride my bikes a lot. My LHT frame is starting to look rusty again so maybe I replace that but maybe I just continue riding it

Combo of diet, intermittent fasting, gym, and riding to get back to pre-COVID weight. The goal with that is to do one of the fairly long bikepacking loops here, and a century, by the end of the summer.

This is also my goal. More riding days even if the rides are short. Going to work on increasing the bike + train collab for some things when possible. Will dither in support of those goals. Riding a bike brings me more joy than anything else right now and life is short.

I’m going in to it blind. it’s almost 2000 miles from where I live.

Oh that route looks lovely, though definitely too bumpy for me or any of my machines.

Sell all of them except for one. Maybe buy a mountain bike. Maybe

I think this is the move. So much dirt to ride here why bother with roads atmo

Need to replace the screw for the derailleur hanger on supbike. it’s not required for riding because the rear wheel is TA, but it’s a pain when doing maintenance

Currently 100% on bike/train commuting instead of driving in 2025 and I would like to keep that up.

I would like to get back in the habit of doing a fun ride every weekend, even if it’s a short one. The latter half of 2024 was more like once a month instead of every week.

I would like to bust my 3500mi/year record, which should be easily doable if i’m doing 50 miles a week commuting + fun rides.

I’d like to double what I did last year, so 5k miles and 300k elevation. Already behind on that by about 120 miles and 7k feet but I’m too soft to ride when it’s this cold.

Specific goals -

Do a 100km ride on my fixed gear that’s not just doing out and back repeats on a flat bike path. Not wanting to get too crazy but I’d like to have some hills involved. Also on my fixed gear I’d like to do one of the more popular climbs here. It’s 6.5 miles and 950 feet, averages 3% but is more like 5%-6% with a fairly flat spot in the middle.

At least six 100+ mile road rides, with one of them being a 200km brevet with AIR

And ride my mountain bike a lot more.

If you want to be ambitious you should try an entire series on your sweet fixie!

(if you want to be more realistic, a 200k – but maybe not in western NC – is a lovely day out on a fixie.)

A few things on my list.
Ride my bikes a lot, try and lose 5kg. I did nearly 9k km last year so if I get anywhere near that I’ll be happy.
Strip down my custom road bicycle for a full clean etc, fit the 12sp Chorus group I’m getting for my birthday (it’s already sitting in the bike room).
Try and ride with some actual people. I think I did maybe 4 rides last year that weren’t solo…
Maybe get the 1x1 out on some trails.
Sell surplus kiddo bikes and wee-hoo, need the space in the garage. Also sell a couple of skeletons I have lying around and get rid of some parts I’m never gonna use.

If I went south of town that could probably happen.

Definitely not with AIR, those folks really like to climb.

  • play more bike polo than i did last year (one tournament weekend? maybe zero pickup? Bleh). Let’s say at least 3 pickup days out of town and a tournament weekend (two optimistically?)

  • get into some sorta shape via peloton. Miss the HIIT workouts from OTF. This will also help get me out on the mtb more i think.

  • ride more mountain bike. maybe do a fun race where i can exert myself but dgaf about “winning”

  • most importantly: more family bike rides. work in progress, building wife bike now, probably done early-mid feb. kiddo is on her strider now but still doable to carry on the crust. worst case is figure new toddler hauling solution on crust.

Beat last year’s MTB milage and ride Legende at VBN QC. I would also like to learn how to hit small gaps.
