I almost ordered a pair of those, then realized I hate poofy fat skate shoes with a fucking passion. I still want a regular street shoe with a recessed SPD cleat, but nothing that looks like a freerider would wear.
I keep getting closer to ordering a pair of those Exustar spinning shoes that Nashbar has for $30. One day I might actually do it.
these have been around for over ten years. i remember 'em from my mountain bike days.
vans stopped making any sort of spd shoe for the last 7 years or so. i remember seeing them in the dan’s comp catalog when i was younger.
i like the idea of a little sole covering that you can put over the cleat when walking around, but i don’t like shoe… are there any shoes out there with a similar thing?
I think the hot tip would be a thin removable footbed made from something semi-flexible like G10 or something that you could velcro into New Eras / Authentics underneath the stock footbed. Then you could have the best of all possible worlds: comfortable shoe that doesn’t scream “FRED!!!” that’s walkable and still stiff enough for longer distance riding.
Despite having a thousand or so miles on my road bike with clipless pedals I’m still not a believer.
