A reasonably attractive SPD tennis shoe from a major manufacturer
I think the hot tip would be a thin removable footbed made from something semi-flexible like G10 or something that you could velcro into New Eras / Authentics underneath the stock footbed. Then you could have the best of all possible worlds: comfortable shoe that doesn’t scream “FRED!!!” that’s walkable and still stiff enough for longer distance riding.

Despite having a thousand or so miles on my road bike with clipless pedals I’m still not a believer.
No idea what they cost, but there’s some carbon on these: http://www.rocket7.com/footbeds.htm

There’s another company out there that does carbon footbeds but they’re like $300 a pop.

i think i’m just gonna get some dominators and wear those’ to da culbz. nothing beats riding in purpose beat shoes.

this talk, it’s real
And I do this, Dom’s are so nice.

I have Adidas Minrett shoes for use with eggbeaters. They are pretty normal looking, lace, not velcro, and comfy. But the sole IS stiff… very stiff. They work when I need to wear the shoes around without clanking the cleats on everything, but not something I’d want to walk around in all day. They have a “plate” like those posted above, but it will only attach if the cleat is NOT on the shoe. Not sure what the purpose is.

My feet are hotter wearing these than compared to my road shoes, but otherwise are perfectly fine for riding.

have it, like it. functional, not ugly, seems to hold up well, cheaper than a lot of clipless shoes Including those vans). would buy again.

plus, are those vans leather? leather sneakers are ugly.
