Sounds like a total dickhead. The MUPs around Seattle aren’t even safe on a road bike at 20 mph much less some e-moped monstrosity.
My friend is a human that, like many other humans does things that would cause others to think they were an asshole.
As their friend have you considered pointing out that their behavior is incredibly dangerous, selfish, and antisocial?
Sounds like a fun phone call
I hate one wheelers as much as the next guy but let’s state for the record that it’s theoretically possible to ride one not like a jackass. Even on a mup at 35mph.
i want to try one so bad
one of my most cherished bike memories is riding aimlessly around lower midtown Manhattan on a slow delivery day, winter sun at noon, blasting that playlist where someone played Chipmunks cover albums down to 16-speed
You had me until…
Sight-lines/turns/path surface on MUPs aren’t designed for those speeds. Not to mention the shitty experience for other users, having people pass at the same speed cars travel on arterial roads. I mean, avoiding fast moving traffic is the reason most people are using the MUP in the first place.
99% of the time it’s a jackass move. That 1% of the time, there’s a straight with good visibility and no one else around, why not floor it?
i’d definitely rather hit a one wheeler than an ebike.
I once came upon a huge crew of one wheelers riding some single track at maybe 4mph. They yielded the trail and were fine, cool that they were outside, seems not that fun though
MUPs are special places where most folks are 100% fine, but the lack of any kind of real rules or well-established norms leads to circumstances where those that feel entitled to do whatever they’re doing at the expense of others becomes glaringly apparent.
Pretty neat petri dish of human behavior.
The 4-wide old white lady walkers OMFG. And they talk shit when you ring your bell and let 'em know you’re coming.
Oh man… Once going through Lincoln Park, I was riding slow coming up behind an old lady dog walker she turned around and looked at me from about 50 feet… Continued to go slow past her on the complete opposite side probably like 8 to 9 feet between us… This is after making eye contact with her… And she yelled at me about not saying some thing when I passed.
The other day I was on the MUP on a bridge with trolly tracks and huge gaps between the wood. There were three older people taking up the whole path so I dinged my bell and said, “coming through behind y’all” or something like that. Two of them moved right and one moved left so I continued down the middle and said “thank you.” One of them griped “ you’re supposed to say ‘on your left!’” What a miserable turd you must have to be to try and police others that hard. So sorry I didn’t word correctly.
Also…this was a while ago but some dude on a one-wheeler on the MUP and came up along side of me and asked if I wanted to race. I really didn’t want to but I’m pretty awkward so I was like uuhh okay. Then the dude just completely ate shit. One wheeler almost went into the river.
UPS driver chased me down over many blocks because i folded his mirror in.
I almost got hit by a bus because of a double parked cable guy van that had a damn orange cone out next to it! I threw the cone on top of the van.
Just make a left to get away
They’re classified employees (unlike Fedex, who are contractors but also more chill atmo) and you may be able to file a report.
This guy also searched me out while I was on foot, detouring more than a few long westside LA blocks, and wanted to throw down. Luckily I was day drunk and mouthed some scary nonsense that sent him away.
