Is this where we complain about Gee Atherton? New Hardline looks like a timed Redbull Rampage event except Rampage would never build a jump with two compressions stacked like that.

I mean, sure, but riders know most of what they are getting into with it. I imagine most know they aren’t that concerned with the time.
At least two other riders made it work. All three were testing it. They also adjust rampage jumps after they do them.

sure they’re all grown, but is it too much to ask for an event coordinator to have more common sense than the participants? Serious question, do you support the new slap fight league too?

Kerr was about a foot from taking a much bigger slam than Jimbo. Jones was about 3 from landing on the flat.

You know this isn’t a serious question. If it was, at least add a comma before the too.

Yeah, BK was sketchy, too. Again, they were testing it. This is stuff is in the unknown realm. They are going to adjust it. You have to imagine they are willing to go long on this one to start. Not sure if Jim just wasn’t prepared for the compression or what.
These are athletes pushing themselves. They can chose not to do this if they don’t feel comfortable. If you think that is the same as people slapping each other, then that is an indictment on your ability to make comparisons and analogies.

Of course it’s a serious question. Both exploit athletes making far too little for the risks they’re asked to take. If you think a 200+ lb man slapping you in the face without flinching isn’t being asked to push yourself beyond human abilities, I encourage you to take one.

Biggest eye roll for the grammar dig.

Here you go.

Again, it may not be for you, and that’s fine. You’re free to tell BK to other DH or freeride athletes that what they do is the same as a 200lb dude slapping another person. Also given the cars that BK and Matt Jones have, I am not too concerned with them not getting paid enough money.

For a second I thought you set that up. So does this mean I’m not alone in my gripe? I’m all for pushing the limits of human ability but not with the consequences I’m looking at. Might as well start fighting lions again.

Pretty sure BK and a few others would do this for free but I guarantee there’ll be dudes hucking this gap from a desperate place.

If you watch Matt’s video, you can see some of the decision process. He walked some techy stuff he wasn’t ready for in those conditions. BK is there to test stuff. Even Matt says the lip is too tight. So it will be adjusted so there can be a competition.

I think your stronger argument would be just around safety and all that. You lose more of it with your analogies, which lack enough essential similarities to carry weight.

Peter Zeihan is one of my favourite jackasses. He is usually entertaining, sometimes englightening, sometimes infuriatingly dead wrong.

This is probably the dumbest shit I have heard come out of his mouth so far:

(He says supercarriers can do 90 knots, i.e. over 100mph.)

The official top speed of the supercarriers is “in excess of 30 knots”. Now of course the military can and does keep secrets, but they can’t fuck physics… the hull speed of these ships is 42 knots. To go faster than that they would need to skim on the top of the water like a waterski. A waterski that weighs 200,000,000 pounds and doesn’t have the right shape for it. This is just obvious lunacy. There’s no fucking way they designed and built the whole power train to be able to put out the ungodly amount of power needed to drive this behemoth at 90knots and then kept it a secret and never drive it over 35. Not to mention the fact that by the time a ship as large as a supercarrier reaches its top speed, the drones it’s supposedly trying to outrun have either caught up with it and hit it, or ran out of fuel… “blistering acceleration” and “aircraft carrier” don’t go together.

Here’s a nice deep dive from some guy that says he worked in a supercarrier engine room and I’m inclined to believe him:
https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-true-top-speed-of-a-USN-nuclear-aircraft-carrier

Watched the BK vid and it seemed like they were there to do what they did. Local riders, doing some publicity and some testing. Not the competition yet, where they will set up more safeguards.

We have one of these Real Actual Legally Binding Red Lights in my neighborhood that the vast majority of drivers ignore. It’s fucking infuriating, to the point where the city had to put up those big signboard trailer things that say “STOP AT RED LIGHTS FOR PEDESTRIANS”.

Yet, obviously people continue to ignore them.

Today when I was crossing that crossing the the 628th time this year and 4 cars blew through the red light at full speed, I just did a fakeout “i’m running in front of your car now” to the 5th car (*not actually entering the street though) and caused some lady to slam her brakes on in the crosswalk and almost get rear-ended by yet another person who was gonna run the light.

Fuck every single one of these people.

Would it make sense to wait to add safeguards until after testing the jump for safety? Pretty sure these are the safeguards

what the fuck

Wait what’s the point of this compared to a normal red light for cars? I’m guessing a bunch of drivers can’t make sense of this or assume it’s not “real”.

Anyway,

i’m really not sure why they don’t just put a normal red light there but mfs need to stop at red lights and it’s pissing me off that they don’t.

the brick is a good idea but my dumbass would throw it

I dunno, it is their prerogative. Watch BK’s video about it. He just wanted to do it. These people’s risk assessment mindset and appetite for it is at a different magnitude from ours. You can catch hours of such truly ignorant content on the channel of say a Colby Raha: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiP-eLsA7LrYNTdBcXFO6dA

Kerr and two other people (one being the guy who ditches his bike) spent a long time gauging it, including doing practice speed runs down the ramp into a big pad being propped up by two people. It’s not like they just went for it.

Yeah, what’s the problem? Xtreme athletes being too xtreme?

Basically. Maybe I’m just getting old because the next thing I’m about to say sure sounds like it. I’ve been watching Hardline since its inception and Rampage for many many years too. The consequences have always been there but they weren’t certain death. The idea of riders risking life for entertainment purposes to collect a meager paycheck and the chance at a modest one is repulsive to me. It sounds like I’m in the minority though so I guess it’s time I move on.
