my nerdy neighbor has been car free his whole life (lives with his mom ATM) and works in the jungle downtown. He bought a Segway scooter instead of a car, he has never been a bike commuter. He got hit the first week and broke his leg, cars fault…
Makes me think there needs to be some kind of how to not get killed by cars workshop available for micromobility folks.

Over the winter I got buzzed by one particular mom on a Tern every couple of weeks. The most annoying part was that it happened close to the top of the Williamsburg Bridge and she’d stop pedaling on the downhill so I’d pass her about 1 minute later.

Cornelia showed up to the restaurant one morning early to find a SUV parked in the lot with all the windows tinted so dark she couldn’t even see if there was anyone in it. She called the cops because they were on private property and she was there alone. Turns out the dude had a bunch of warrants on him and the cops had been looking for him for months.
ATMO, you don’t tint your windshield unless you’re fully trying to hide some shit.

I would do the barely-visible windshield tint on a car in a hot climate, I kind of regret not doing it along with the other windows on my P2

the films I’ve seen are 90+ VLT, which means they’re only <10% darker than no tint

I was gonna say something about driving at night with sunglasses, but then I looked up VLT and saw that most sunglasses block a lot more light than that. The tinted windshields I’ve seen around here are damn dark though. Many have to be blocking way more than 10%.

It still surprises me just how frequently I see cars without plates rolling around in LA. Every time I leave the house I see at least 3-5. Ferraris, shitboxes, econoboxes, seems to be anything and everything.
often there’s a temp tag hanging invisibly in the tinted back window… which is legal but dumb
