thats why hes on the sidewalk!
Fuck these cute little guys
lol did it work?
They managed to reduce the tree to small enough pieces that they could stuff them in a trash bag. I assume the bolt cutters went into a different trash bag
Small potatoes for this thread, but I just got back from a ride, cruising the last quarter mile down a windy residential street at 17 mph, smattering of parked cars on either side of the road, clearly positioning myself in a way that signaled DON’T PASS, and some dipshit in a beat up champagne Silverado still needed to pass me to get to the next stop sign 5 seconds faster. I dunno why but the “unsafe pass just because I needed to be in front of you because you are a traffic cone to me” always gets under my skin the most
I had two of those the other day. One was a BMW that got stuck waiting on traffic with me at the stop sign, only to have to wait with me again at the red light.
By the revving, I could tell that irritated the driver.
The Angel and I had a crazy one a week ago. We biked over to a music festival in downtown Hartford behind the Capitol building. Saw Thundercat from up on the hill outside the fence and biked home.
Riding in Hartford is crazy. It’s like a dead city, there isn’t really traffic but there’s a lot of open air sketchiness. Live and let live, whatever. Lot of cars with blacked out windows, loud bass, weird exhaust noises, speeding between lights. You get honked at on a bike sometimes. This is everywhere really.
So we’re riding back home up to an intersection where a right turn lane appears and there is no bike lane provision at all. I pull up to the left (straight) lane kind of to the right side. The Angel is a little to the right, sort of in the right turn lane but with enough room for a car to make a right turn. There are maybe 2 cars behind us stopped at the red light. We hear a weird sounding loud car accelerating behind us, and it proceeds to go into the oncoming traffic lane and make a right turn on red, cutting in front of us. We then can see that it has multiple flat tires as it speeds away. There’s honking from behind us and a black SUV speeds into the right turn lane, the windows are open and we can see it’s uniformed cops in pursuit. The angel gets out of the road onto the sidewalk as I’m still in the straight lane dumbfounded by what’s happening. Then a marked cop SUV speeds up after the first one, still only honking, no sirens, and the uniform driving tells her to ‘Stay safe out here’ as he speeds by.
I kept replaying in my mind the whole ride home wtf were these cops doing honking instead of sirens on when they were in pursuit of car they had probably thrown spike strips down on. Fucking nuts. Anyway, happy neither of us died.
Scary stuff.
I saw like twelve cops arresting a calm, five foot tall, middle aged Hispanic woman on my way home from work today. Two of those cop cars blasted past me on Clark Street in Wrigleyville at like 55 mph with no lights, only making noises as they flew through intersections.
Reminds me of the time I biked around Tulsa with my ex. I guess I didn’t see any tinted windows or loud bass, but riding around on memorial day it felt like we were the only people in the city and it was magical.
The City rebuilt the traffic circle at the end of my block. It should be 3 feet bigger in diameter, six inches taller and have a damn maple tree in the middle of it. And all four crosswalks should be elevated. There are two schools right behind me when taking this picture.
On the flip, they’re pedestrianizing a big intersection on Clark Street near a bunch of schools.
They unearthed what once was and could be again.
I dunno. If they brought back the streetcar, you’d lose the trees that are there now. Though it doesn’t look like very useful green space anyway.
Grandpa drove the streetcars in Chicago before he worked at schwinn for like a week. He used to tell us the story about the carriage that contacted the overhead wires would derail. You had to go out in the road and use the special stick to nudge it back in place to connect the circuit. He watched a guy doing the thing get knocked out of his shoes by a car coming the other way and quit the same day. Then he got the job at schwinn
Your grandad had a life full of things.
Some busses run on overhead wires here and they still have to use sticks to get them back on the wires sometimes.
Do you mean ropes? The traditional us streetcar use trolley poles & a rope retriever and you get the pole back on the wire with the rope
It was stories he told me 40 years ago about something that he was remembering from 100 years ago. I might not have all of the details 100%.
LOOK! An article about automotive homicide where the journalist actually uses language holding the driver responsible for their actions!
The only person who doesn’t seem to is the husband of the woman killed!
Chaffin faces misdemeanor charges for driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed, failure to use due care to avoid hitting a pedestrian and with operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
DUI is a misdemeanor in IL? And she’s not being charged for hit and run?
As an alcoholic I’m not trying to pass judgement but 6:40am is pretty early to be sauced up and driving around on a Sunday.
killed by driver
driver faces misdemeanor charges
The journalist might not be a jackass but the prosecutor(or whoever brings the charges) certainly is!
