A safe space to complain about jackass humans

The dog is innocent!

There ain’t no dog at that station. Dogs require empathy and no human with empathy would do that with the snow.

Wrong dog

Honestly I’ve met some dickish dogs and I blame the owners but the dog was still a jerk

Been a problem here too. Last night I did the exasperated-hands-up-disappointed-face-wtf pose at a red light runner and he gave me the finger, laughing. Which made me feel really upset, which in turn made me feel stupid. Shit sucks

I’d like to think these guys would crash themselves out into parked cars and jersey barriers but they always seem to come back with another car post haste.

Some people are just selfish assholes and there isn’t enough karma for all of them

I was going north on a one way and there was a van trying to turn south onto the one way. I politely informed him that it was a one way street and he just smiled and kinda shrugged so I stood in his way and told him to go around the block and he laughed at me like I’d told a funny joke. He had a big silly smile on his face and just laughed every time I told him to go around the block. Then I realized that I was being a street yeller so I left and he turned the wrong way onto the street, laughing at me all the while like the thought of driving safely around the block instead of driving the wrong way on a one way residential street in a bigass work van was just the silliest thing he’d ever heard.

I rode away feeling like loser and a crazy street yeller.

taking the paternalistic “oh hey buddy maybe you made a boo boo do you still need directions or did google already tell you” approach can bear fruit

an even softer version of the “dang I don’t get it, can you explain the punchline?” way of responding to a racist joke

That reminds me, I need to practice using my NPR voice in these situations

I’ve stopped giving the finger to bad drivers. I just give them a big “thumbs down”. This feels much better. “I’m not mad, you’re just a dummy.”

Every day before school I stand out at the front stairs and greet kids as they come off the bus/walk in. Watching parents do the dumbest shit in their cars to not have to enter the parking lot for drop off. I’m not supposed to engage them… but I do go help kiddos get across the street in the crosswalk which is gratifying…. Lots of me giving stern teacher eyes to folks who know they are wrong.

Also… I need to do this because everyone speeds past the school and fails to notice any of the kiddos on the sidewalk… and most of the kiddos are V timid and bad at crosswalks.

There have been 3 people hit in 4 years at my school… including a staff member.

Do you have speed cameras where you are?

We have a lot of school zone speed cameras here. I only know this because the tickets come in the mail to my house with my own partner’s name on the envelopes and pictures of their car inside.

In Seattle, yes… My school is in a different municipality. I’ve already pursued the street safety design thing all the way up to our districts, construction, and building chief person essentially even though the street itself is not up to current code for school safety regardless of cameras… The city will not pay to bring it up to code… They’ll wait till we redevelop the school in five years and make us bring the street up to code as part of the permitting.

It may be time for some gorilla pruning of neighborhood trees so that you can even see the school zone signs… But the fact that our school zone is about 100 m long and only right in front of the school is fucking pointless and stupid considering all the other major roads around the schools that students need to walk along and cross to get here.

Also WTH: Seattle had moved parking enforcement out of SPD and into Seattle Department of transportation for management… That allowed us to use the SDOT app to report illegal parking… Which I did all the time given that that’s a hill. I’m going to die on apparently. For whatever reason it was moved back under the purview of SPD and now to report illegal parking, you have to call the Non Emergency Line and sit on hold and report it verbally. It’s stupid.

Too many people used the app, meaning more work and more backlog. Now they can ignore it and the numbers look like the problem was solved.

Damn is this the first thing I’m gonna message Katie Wilson about?
