Drake no: parking in the bike lane
Drake yes: still fucking up cyclists
You should try being not as tall
The bike lane was made during the construction of that building which is now wrapping up. Construction bros have been salty for months, parking their trucks wherever. But now that the flexi posts are up, they’ll get a ticket. That building they built is a total trash building, just stick-built with a single-course brick shell. I don’t know when the codes changed to allow this kind of construction but that building isn’t even pretending to be fire resistant!
it probably has to be sprinklered anyway, so it doesn’t ‘need’ to be from a code and value perspective
Yes, I’m sure that’s the case. From a building maintenance perspective, the last thing I want to deal with is a sprinkler system. I have a couple that I deal with in parking garages and they’re a constant headache, so I’m glad to mostly work with “fireproof” 1920s buildings.
Last fire we had, a lady set her bed on fire and then just walked out the door (we never saw or heard from her again) without calling the FD and her apartment burned until the apartment below started to get smoke and then they called.
The fire gutted the apartment it started in and put a big hole in the roof, but didn’t spread to any other apartments because of the way the building is constructed. The apartments below and adjacent suffered smoke and water damage but the fire was contained and nobody was hurt. I’ve seen stick-built buildings completely hollowed out by fire, sprinklers or no sprinklers.
What does a fire like that do to the brick concrete etc?
Nothin good. We had to replace some bricks and coping tiles on some little parapet walls up on the roof.
nearly creamed a woman who blindly wandered into the bike lane today, she yelped when her companions pulled her out of the way
I had two flashing lights on and was playing music because I don’t have a cowbell yet
Is starting to think that the city just has no plan at all for clearing snow from all the great bike lanes that they recently built.
plow attachment for bucket bike
I ain’t got the watts for that!
The point is that if the City is going to build infrastructure, they should be maintaining it! How about they just stop plowing the streets altogether!
How is it in NYC
It doesn’t snow here anymore
Wondering the same here for the new sidewalk and bike path that runs along the newly constructed bus rapid transit lanes near me. I rode them for the first time last weekend and they’re great and the improved crosswalks are also great, but I wonder if they’ll get plowed so they’re actually usable after it snows.
City of Austin catches a lot of flak lately but I gotta say, bike lanes remain clear of snow
A big part of my commute is on the Grand st bike lane in Brooklyn. Once I saw the mini plow for the bike lane but I don’t think I’ve ever seen the lane get plowed. Also, like @jame5on said, we don’t get much snow these days.
Years ago we had a freak snow storm on a Friday evening. Wasn’t really forecasted and we got 4 inches of heavy, wet snow. Riding home from work was really sketchy because nothing was plowed, except for the bike lane over the Williamsburg Bridge, which was in perfect condition.
That’s how the Lakefront Trail is here. Every road and bike lane will be a total shitshow but the trail will be totally clear, it’s weird. I’m not complaining, but I’d rather have side streets and bike lanes cleared than the trail if I had to choose one.
DOT vs Parks department plowing plans/priorities?
Nothing works as it should in NYC. It is not an example for anything.
