A safe space to complain about jackass humans

Do you really want that thing stuck there with a flat tire?

At least that way it won’t be driving around spewing its poison.

Nice of them to leave some room for the grey car to get out. :colbert:

I live next door to a hospital and see people in wheelchairs fighting past poorly parked Lime Scooters crowding sidewalks daily. This was so satisfying.

“Right, we have to make melbourne look like NYC, change the street signs and what else?”

“Hold my beer”

Do you know what this is?

Steam vent thingy

Why is there steam under the streets

To provide atmosphere for films shot in nyc

To pretend you’re smoking a giant joint

Because if the steam was above the streets there would be even less space for the garbage bags

To overheat your apartment so you have to keep a window open in winter

100 year old municipal steam distribution that a lot of buildings are still hooked up to. It’s a pain to fix leaks while it’s hot cause it’s hot and you’ll make the buildings cold so they route it over car height so it doesn’t blind drivers. Similarly you’ll see 6’tall liquid nitrogen tanks chained to street lights on the sidewalk. They are dripping it through hoses to spray fiber optic lines so the leaking steam doesn’t melt them.

you can also use LN2 to freeze water pipes solid to execute an emergency repair

I stopped to tell him I was sending him a ticket. And then I sent him a ticket

I know that school/daycare dropoff and pickup are like the final bosses of bonehead driving, but the situation at daycare lately has really been something to observe. There’s a (school) construction site across the street from daycare and they are starting to work on some sewer stuff so they are starting to restrict access and implement some road closures. We have received messages from daycare describing the hours that the road is fully closed and that it will be one-way the rest of the time. There are signs posted at daycare entrances. There are signs on the main road that say not to turn on to the one-way street. There are DO NOT ENTER signs like you would see on the highway. And I would say most parents are heeding this, but like 25% still cruise right past all that shit. No harm no foul most of the time but WHY CAN’T YOU GET A FUCKING HINT???

There are a lot of posts on the Seattle Reddit about new no right in red signs at most intersections, and the general sentiment is… I’m not going to sit at the light if it is clear to turn…. Followed closely by “pedestrians need to look before they cross the street, sure they have the right of way… print that in their tombstone etc”…

Which to me reads like may drivers feeling that the rules of the road do not matter, on if they feel like what they are doing is OK.

abdicating responsibility for your own personal safety in situations where cars can literally kill you is never a good idea, regardless of who is legally right

the lack of situational awareness on people is baffling

right on red is bad design, you could just add a blue light or something to tell people when they can do that other thing if you want them to do a different thing. there are times driving on the border of queens and long island you don’t really know whether you are in the city or not and it can be difficult to know which rule you are supposed to follow.

I have so many words for this but all I’m going to say is that 100% of the time this line of reasoning is victim-blaming from drivers and a rationalization for traffic violence

I don’t think a single pedestrian or cyclist thinks that they don’t have any responsibility for their own safety but every day I see drivers who don’t believe they have any responsibility for the safety of others

I ride to school with my 7 year-old all the time. She doesn’t know every traffic rule. She doesn’t realize how dangerous cars really are. She doesn’t always follow my every instruction perfectly. This is what goes through my head every time I read something like this.
