A safe space to complain about jackass humans

you’re both going to need outfits

I tried on some waxed canvas Filson pants today. Will that do?

Not if they had zippers and buttons. And are any color besides black.

Bro the non waxed canvas with a semi cinch waist are good and cheap but they come in dumb colors

I tried on like 5 pairs at the store today and they all fit different and mostly my thighs were too large for them. Except the oiled ones which were large and not black but at least fit me.

It’s 90% sitting around watching sap boil

Had first real dumb run in with driver today. Start of my commute is a mellow descent, like 3% downhill. Today I was coasting it probably over 21mph. and we were approaching a cross street. Of course people see flashing light for school zone and generally take it easy. But the real bright person determined they needed to turn right on Alderwood before I got there. I noticed blinker as they reached me, but thought, no way, its like 200 ft ahead. Sure enough, real late breaking, so late they even skidded a bit. Probably came close to hitting car on Alderwood that was waiting to run left onto NW.
So I just flipped them off as I went by. Hope they saw. So stupid, and it was nice out, too.

I wanted to be the first one at work today, one of my in-office days. Of course I left the house late (luxury bidet poop). I got down to the station and the next train wasn’t due for 6 minutes. Usually at rush hour it is like 2 minutes. Fuck. I only had about 24 minutes to play with when I got out the door. So the train comes, and we pack in like sardines, because 6 minute interval. I’m on the wrong side of the car from the doors through which I will have to exit. About 5 feet but an eternity.

Anyway, I somehow make it out and get up the stairs to the street. Piles of snow everywhere. I figured I’d hop on the bus to go the remaining 10 or so blocks, but I don’t see one coming. I look down the street at the citbike dock. That fucker is plowed in hard. Is it even functioning? I see someone struggling to either dock or remove a bike, though. Interesting. So I cross the street for a closer examination. I look back toward the bus stop and down the avenue. There’s a bus like 5 blocks away, but it is crawling. Lights changing in front of it. Time is ticking. Also, it is like 12 degrees out.

I look back toward the dock. There’s an electric citibike that someone failed to dock properly. I walk over to it and try to slam it into place. But there’s too much snow piled inside of the dock to be able to get the bike low enough to connect properly. Hmm, maybe if I ride it over 10 blocks to work, I’ll be able to dock it there. The ride will simply be my payment for being a good samaritan.

So I hop on, push the bike past the piles of snow and into the avenue. My face is freezing, the bus I could have been on is literally behind me. Eventually it catches a light that I coast through. I make a left the wrong way down a one way street, as I do every time I ride a citibike to work, and approach the dock. Awesome, plenty of empty docks. And I see someone riding away on a bike. Though I don’t know which dock they removed theirs from. I try to park the bike in one dock, but the snow is too deep. No dice. I try a second and fail again. Time is ticking!

After a few minutes I gave up and left the bike undocked. “Maybe I’ll come out in a little while and try again,” I thought! (I did not). Today I think that I was the jackass human. First person in, however!

Apparently stop signs and red lights are optional in the snow

Man I had an almost-right-hook encounter yesterday too and it’s one of my biggest gripes with my fuckin neighbors. I’m finally going to draw this up because it’s pissin me off again lol

I make this left turn out of my neighborhood on many many rides (red line). Pull out on the road, get in the bike lane and bike towards that miserable intersection. Every once in a while I’ll have somebody pull up behind me at the stop sign and also want to turn left. But they also want to turn right at that intersection (green line). Now I am not always going very fast, but a driver that actually stops at the sign after I take off then drives responsibly should not be trying to beat me to that intersection. And yet!!!

Had a 4Runner gas it up my ass yesterday and then try to hook me, but it’s okay because they had a blinker on! There is another stop sign immediately after that turn so I gave them a piece of my mind as I biked by, it seems like they heard me so maybe they will get a clue but I won’t hold my breath.

Also shartmo this shit is so predictable at this point that I don’t feel particularly threatened by it, but I would really love to ride through there with my family and other less savvy/experienced riders without having drivers trying to “beat” us to save 0.0 seconds

I’m also just going to take the opportunity to complain about that intersection in the lower left corner of that grab. It’s fucking stupid and probably dangerous but it’s never going to be in the budget to tear it out. The responsible thing to do would be to dead end a couple of those streets to auto traffic but I’m sure the people living on those streets would shit their pants, despite that intersection making their lives worse every damn day

Roundabout.

Or maybe get rid of the more northern branch of Old Manor (where the green arrow goes) and tighten the intersection and make it two turns to get from Manor to Old Manor via Westminster.

Given the proliferation of flex posts on Google Streetview, the local DOT clearly knows it’s a problem intersection.

The only time I ever took someone’s mirror off was getting a fly-by on a right turn exit ramp like that. I felt the car’s slipstream as it blew by me. Caught up to the guy and just slammed that driver’s side mirror off.

I never turn on my zoom camera so no one can see me reacting to the insanely dumb shit everyone is saying.

Yes and no, the flex posts have been going up along bike lanes all over town. I don’t complain about them, they do build confidence for some riders, and they do help keep cars out of the bike lane, but ultimately they get run over all the fucking time and don’t prevent cars from entering the bike lane so they are contentious

is this how you do this?
