A safe space to complain about jackass humans

i felt bad about this the other day. some folks on the north side of the GGBridge, obviously having trouble fixing a flat. i stopped to make sure they had spare tube and a pump, but i’m not touching someone else’s bike in pandemic times.

yep, I always do this. I got stuck with a broken mini pump going to work once, walked about 5km with an obviously flat tyre before someone stopped to help. Not that anyone owes me assistance, but I’d rather be the person that at least offers to help rather than riding by.

I think I may have some spectrum related issues. General, non-committal greetings even at work are something I have to consciously make sure I’m doing. My standard state is to ignore people. Years of working on this has made it easy but it literally never feels natural.

Maybe that’s normal, I dunno

But I usually do the finger wave, especially to other cyclists out in the country

i really like the doppler of a ding on the bell when someone passes me the other direction on a steep hill and i hope others appreciate it when i do it

Yeah, I usually do a ding in lieu of a wave or whatever.

I had just done a nice ride around the neighborhood and was waiting at a stoplight about half a mile from my house. As the light turns green, I stand on the pedals and get almost halfway across the intersection when this tire-chirping shitbox Toyota flies in from the left. The guy was going full gas basically into the oncoming lane just to right hook me! This doesn’t even save any time, and he just about hit a truck to do it! He missed me by like a foot and only because I saw him in the corner of my eye and hit the brakes.

I know we can’t expect any better from drivers at this point, but with all the other shit going on right now, is it too much to ask that they cut this shit out?

Maybe you looked like a peaceful protestor and he was trying to hit you

Dude, people forgot how to drive during quarantine. It’s fuckin nuts out there.

Also wonder if way more people are drinkin or druggin behind the wheel just based upon my personal daily increase in consumption since 2020 started.

That’s a real good point.

The guy who ran into me a couple months ago (time flies!) was definitely day-drunk. Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the guy from yesterday wasn’t under the influence of something either, it’s really hard for me to imagine someone doing something so aggro while completely sober (and yet imagine it I can)

a guy in a myata tried to beat me up last night after i flicked him off.
he only started to get really mad after i made fun of his “big man car”

aw poor miata guy

what could a miata owner possibly do to offend? They’re basically one of us!

I have never felt bigger on my bike than when being passed by a Miata. I had even thought about getting one after I got divorced until I saw that a Surly has more road presence

Someone I know got hit by a Miata on his bike and they both got wrecked. Dude had huge abdominal gash and some other minor injuries. The Miata got totaled by insurance. Weird to think of a human body totaling a car and surviving. Dude got really lucky.

it’s a goal of mine to be involved in a bike/car accident where I am not badly hurt and the car is written off.

Literally came to this thread to ask if anyone else is feeling like traffic and pedestrians are acting worse than normal. I was riding around today and had so many bad interactions with pedestrians and cyclists. I think that with the light traffic people are thinking it’s now more safe to stand in the street while waiting to cross, jaywalk, or ride like the road is theirs to own. Had some seriously close calls and none of them were with cars.

NYC this week is fucking terrible. Cars back everywhere, trucks, delivery vehicles, construction. Meanwhie, our idiot mayor has done literally nothing in this regard EXCEPT

Not sure if this is the right thread but dammit they added stop signs on Fiesta Island, which was basically the perfect training loop before that. One way, 4.2 mile laps, pancake flat. So fuck whatever jackass city council member or whoever the hell inspired the decision
