All things NuMTB thread, now lower longer and slacker

Lots of Fly racing stuff out there but most of it seems motocross oriented

i even knew better than to do this. i know his track record and it aint pretty. but i ordered a fork through him because i had an IOU floating around in my head ever since he donated the titanium drop bars for the 2019 nahbs pubesmobile. was fully prepared that something was probably going to be off. did NOT expect to never get a fork though.

no. unless you go through @rancid_burple but he doesn’t count because he doesn’t make enough money doing it. sort of a ā€œyou should totally support the LBS where i get everything for cost but you don’tā€ situation. also he’s not even 'merican.

What is the consensus on steel single-pivot mountain bikes like this: https://ferrumbikes.com/

I enjoy the ā€œmade in some guy’s garageā€ aesthetic, but if they ride like shit I’ll get something more normal. It seems like the suspension design is really archaic compared to the new stuff, but I’ve never owned a full-suspension bike before.

The Pivot Point on our NV170 was optimized and obsessed over to bring to you a bike that delivers over 100% Anti-squat through it’s travel.

During braking there is a force created that wants to cause the rear-end to rise, causing your suspension to extend and cease to work optimally, this is controlled by proper pivot placement and good design via Anti-Rise. Our anti-rise curve stays over 100% for over 105mm of travel, meaning your braking won’t affect your suspension action during this 0mm-105mm portion of travel.

I don’t think you can argue with that math

Uk guys posted pics of a builder over there that used the bb as the pivot. That’s interesting

Their merch is operator tier
Are these starling knockoffs?

I’m just not a savvy enough mountain biker to know whether they are producing something that two rednecks welded up after 18 Busch Lights or if they’re a little rough around the edges but it works just fine.

I’m looking for a mountain bike, but most of them are a little…polished. I want something a little shitty and sketchy I guess.

For the fist 20 years of full squish the whole world including the shiny guys where trying to figure out a single pivot one piece swingarm by optimizing pivot location. The idea that these guys are the ones who finally cracked it is laughable. Claiming anything they do is more than 100% effective is a red flag. There is no single answer to this problem everyone rides and wants something different. Try as many as you can and if you have to compromise on anything I would suggest that your aesthetic sensibilities are the least important factor in this decision

Steel is over 100% real

Also ā€œchromoly’ is how you describe the tubes you build a motorcycle frame out of. It’s not how you end up with a full suspension mtb bike frame that you can lift into a rack without help.

Got it, so just buy a mid-range Kona and move on with my life.

Who do you think was most successful at optimizing single-pivot design?

I guess I’ll find out some time in November.

That pivot makes way more sense. It minimizes the angle of the triangle with the pull side of the chain.

The big guys didn’t abandon the project for marketing reasons. Someone will drop the British builder I can’t think of in here. They are using the bb for a pivot so peddling doesn’t effect squish

My suggestion would always be get a better hardtail and get good at riding it unless you want to go hang at the ski resort with your buddies in witch case this might be fine

I am highly interested in the details of this. You designed this and are having it custom built? Did you make a separate thread about this somewhere?

no way full squish fucking rules. i learned on a 95 rockhopper ultra and a bmx bike so i took my knocks but full squish is so great
