All things NuMTB thread, now lower longer and slacker

It is a good metric for me in this case, because I’m perceiving how much my legs hurt, which might force me to get off my bike. Also perceiving how my energy levels are once I get to the top (how much fatigue-induced brain fog) and start thinking about going back down. I’m a very advanced gauge in this regard!

It would be interesting to see someone measure watts in a scenario where only the frame material and its weight changes (well, and so then its properties as Fred pointed out). I’m sure it has been done.

As I’ve never used a power meter that watt output would tell me very little to nothing though, unless the numbers were basically the same.

One could argue that since the discussion is about component weight, it has escaped the bounds of riding bikes for fun.

I’m tall and a clyde; my bikes will never be light.

Is the frame a component? The frame is the frame :atmo:

Skeleton!

So if I’ve learned anything over the past 2 months it is that the more air I put into my shock and the faster rebound I dial in, the better jumping goes. Lol, duh.

oh fast rebound makes jumps so good…
until you dead sailor one and it sends you OTB

Mine was def too slow. Feet were coming off the pedals when jumping on the bike on flat ground. I couldn’t figure it out. So the suspension actually feels more predictable now.

Rode the stumpy evo for the first time in a while today. Ebike is just convenient with shit weather and working two jobs.
But I forgot I put new pads on the stumpy but didnt bed them in (likely because rainy). So managed to do that a bit on climb with additional small descents since I was ahead of sup and doggo. One jump trail was still a bit wet, so used that to finish the job.
Oh, and first time clipping in again since i went flats for winter coz five ten goretex shoes are great. Somehow I set up these other ones way too far forward. Felt so awkward, but really how did I manage that last summer? Maybe that is really why I wore the specialized xc/gravel shoes so much more.
Alas, def was a workout, even at a fairly chill pace. Didn’t feel great on jumps and I don’t think it was the lighter bike. Maybe reverted to some bad habits, but really felt like I was having to lean farther forward because didn’t feel as supported at the pedals. I’m sure it will come back soon enough. Flats were fun for winter, but didn’t love having to deal with awkward foot placements at times (since i have been clipped in for 20 years).

lol. Didn’t get them bedded in, more glazed as yesterday’s ride showed me.

Also, sad that FOX killed the Dialed series for this year. Always was a cool perspective of the World Cups.

I’m buying the tooling to service my own shocks. If anyone has fox stuff they want rebuilt HMU.

I have all the tools for a 36, then I went and got a 34.

I’ve been putting off buying the socket and seal driver while I dither on replacing it with a 36.

I tried to do a fork once. I don’t think it was ever quite the same. then I looked at my local shop Instagram and saw how many parts are in shocks. never touching that!

The standard can service is trivial atmo

I don’t remember what size fork but the one time I rebuilt a fox fork a Gatorade bottle top was the perfect size for pushing in the seal. I think for the socket I ground off the leading edge chamfer. I don’t remember if there was an additional modification.

Hardest part of shock service is getting the thing back in the frame.

Where am I watching Fort William these days? I forgot what I was doing last year. I think I subscribed to something.

HBO Max is where it airs in US. I thought they initially said you needed to subscribe to B/R sports, but you just move over to that tab on the app and you have access to it. I watched some spring classic earlier, and then this race today just with MAX.

So stoked for the American Junior Asa Vermette. Kid who cracked his hip 5 weeks ago or so, didn’t expect a return so soon, let alone crushing the field by 6 seconds. I think maybe a bit out of top 10.

Excellent, gonna set up my projector in my dusty unfinished living room lol.

I noticed that the next DH race is in Poland. Wild, I know very little about MTB there.

Yeah, was a bit surprised to see that. Don’t think they have ever been there. No enduros, either. Maybe the IXS cup did, because they tend to go farther afield for some dh races.

lol, fb memories for 10 years ago.

Modernizing the Chumba is complete.
710mm niner flat 9 bars, and accompanying 31.8 stem
deore hydro brakes
xt shifter, slx shadow+ dangler
race face narrow wide ring
purple grips

Now to just get into bleeding brakes so I can trim the rear hose and change the ones on my gf’s bike to pink.
