Deore is butt.
Shimano micro spline cassettes are heavy
HGX chains are dumb and Shimano chains are not known for durability
The Shimano DM ring interface is stupid.
Sram DUB bottom brackets are not as durable as they should be
Sram DM rings are also dumb (but less so).
Shimano brakes are more prone to leaking than Sram.
Sram XX chains do in fact last quite a bit longer and are with every penny.
If you are going to stay on top of chain wear XO/XX cassettes are the best over all.
One Up switch system is really good.
TRP makes great brakes that are easy to deal with.
If you get Shimano open the clutch and grease it because Shimano probably forgot to.
NX is also doo doo.
XO shifter with GX dangler is the people’s champ.
I do like the pink frame color for sure. And yes upgrade parts whenever. The core 1 does have some basement level spec in terms of suspension and drivetrain, so shifter feel won’t be great (and also heaver).
Robots are nice. But also ultimate level suspension will feel better, better bars/stem combo. full carbon. Wouldn’t have a need to really upgrade unless you wanted a carbon bar or something (or carbon wheels down the line, which likely would go to any other bike since we should have 110/148 for a bit still).
Whatever happened to 4X? I don’t know why that just popped into my head but I remember all sort of talk about it and brands making 4x bikes like ~15 years ago but then it just vanished.
4X kinda dried up in the US when UCI moved DH to Sundays. When USA Cycling followed, the 4X / Dual Slalom races that were run after the DH races stopped happening.
I think I’ve seen a DS race at Mt Bachelor once in recent memory. Other than that, it’s just pirate races up in Bham.
I watched a bit of Les Gets 2004 the other day and the 4x looked sick. I feel like with the F1-ization of DH these days you can’t have dudes smashing into eachother like that anymore?
I remembered why that was on my mind, we met a guy at Duthie Hill bike park who was telling us he was putting a slalom race soon and said “like the old fourcross days” and I was thinking it’d been ages since I heard about that
Suspension is pretty solid. I like the fox performance fork with the grip damper, and the rear shock is solid performer, as well. Deore stuff is a bit heavy (crank and cassette), but I think they perform well. Maybe upgrade to XT shifter so you can get double clicks for harder gears.
Overall, pretty banging deal for an xc rig.
