asploded bike parts thread

Hopefully he makes wind chimes or a door knocker out of them or something.

Manipoo, amirite?
Hincapie’s steerer break was different, his broke right at the top race and was entirely the fault of the defective Chris King design. That goddamn compression o-ring will just wear a groove right into a carbon or aluminum steerer. CK has been quietly selling aftermarket top races with tapered split-rings since the Aheadset patent expired, but the cowards aren’t shipping them stock that way yet (probably a collabo of jackass pride and wanting to burn through inventory).

This guy just overtightened his stem clamp.
Chris King has been shipping them this way for the last few months. I’ve sold and installed dozens. I imagine that any old style you saw was simply old stock they were selling through.

If this was BF, someone would say that any descent shop would have no problem cutting 10cm of threads and that they should do it for no more than $15.

According to that link they were made by a company called XACD and sold under a bunch of names including Sibex and Spicer. Normally I’m no good at remembering stuff like that but those pics made my skin crawl.

uhh, click the link, the first line has plenty of info on the manufactures…

This one is 140mm on top, with rake somewhere around 45mm (post-crash measurement, suspect). Was thinking of going with the Soma fork if nothing used turned up. Opinions?

Gimme.

I bought this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140569662079#ht_1718wt_1141

And got this:

Sent him this eBay message:

Fuck this guy, I’d even corresponded with him before hitting BIN to see what the stem angle was. I almost hope he keeps being a dick just so I can royally fuck his eBay account by getting my full refund from them.

You mean questions like, “Is there a big crack running the length of the stem?”

Ya, fuck that guy. Says right in Item Condition that “The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended.”

Also, Reasonable Facsimile -background info on those pics? (or is there some way I’m not knowing of how to figure out where they’re from?)
