I can probably ride mid-day on Monday.
Looks like I’ve got Friday off. Weather should be fantastic.
@dema looks like you will be coming up to the North Bay then brosky. I won’t be riding.
Thursday night. We could do Souley Vegan, but that’s a bit of a haul from bart. There’s Rudy’s uptown which is pretty close to bart.
Meghan is picking me up from the oakland airport around 5, then i need to pick up my bike from the shop brent/exhusband works at (tip top bikes or somethin’). I am sure we will have worked up a hunger by then.
I suppose we could eat anywhere and pick up Nathan from bart. I’ll have Maya with me, so I won’t be able to stay out particularly late.
And we will have Grey so we can’t stay out too late either. He didn’t go to bed until 10 last night and I would prefer to not repeat that!
Saturday, let’s hang out at our place! Around 4?
I’m a maybe. My Aunt is in town visiting from the east coast.
probably can’t make it
heading up to SF for a fit at 10, then back down to Santa Cruz for a race at 3:30, not gonna wanna drive back up to Marin or Oakland or wherever after that
unless someone wants to get coffee or something in the city saturday morning or like noonish?
@aerobear - Sunday morning I’m doing Mt. Diablo with teammates, it’s our president’s birthday ride. Sunday evening I should be free, maybe me and Marci can meet you for beers or something? Monday I’m flying to Tempe @ 6 AM
Btw, there’s a stand at the Laney flea market that always has decent parts but today he had a lot of groupsets for $200-350. Apex, rival, force, 105, ultegra, and dura. Good condition too. Obviously stolen but a dura ace groupset for $350 is hard to pass up.
Are there any good cyclocross trails in the east bay? There must be. I don’t want to have to bart into the city and ride into the headlands on my day off just to hit some dirt.
They’re all over.
find nearest regional park, ride nearest regional park.
go off peak to poach, if singletrack is to be on the menu. some poach trail can get pretty dicey for cross, but hell, cross is all about dismount/remounts right?
also, i’m sure you’ve done it, but you can do a couple laps at joaquin miller park for something in oakland that’s really quick, or make a full day of it and do something between redwoods regional and joaquin, though you’ll probably have to loop some pavement in. also, killer fire road grades in that park (well, fire roads in the east bay all have a high chance of pain cave)
That’s exactly the info I’m looking for. Thank you
in jmp just say off chaparral and cinderella trails (chaparral in particular would be tough).
some decent indian fast food in the market at the bottom of the hill by 13
I haven’t done a whole lot of exploration in redwoods. madrone is a killer single track that’s totally poach (oh yeah, all the single track in jmp is bike legal as long as it isn’t marked “no bikes”). I ride down west ridge trail on the squish bikes on shuttle days. I’ve climbed back out of the park on that trail and it’s a doozy. pretty steep in a few sections.
tilden and upper uc berkeley campus has some great views. aweomse single tracks for gnar bro squish bike days (some log drops, jumps, and lots of steep rooty sections so i wouldn’t suggest it on a cross bike at all), but in general the people up there are very anti bike (all traffic off of the roads is not allowed, yet there was a guy assaulting cyclists with a folding saw a few years ago on said singletracks).
anything east of the berkeley hills is really dense clay, have to give it a solid week to dry out after rain (maybe two with the heavy dump we got). also note, no singletracks on mt diablo, they like to give out tickets.
dont know of much riding elsewhere since I usually meet with friends from davis (so ride at vacaville area, not very good riding)
oh and there’s tamorancho. I think it’s best suited for a hardtail, but some people do it cross. decently rooty and rocky in sections, lots of switchbacks. long drive from oakland though, and it’s in marin so no public transpo

One can do the whole west ridge/east ridge loop in Redwoods. One can also connect that loop to pavement on either end of the park. I’ve done that a few times. Wouldn’t try to poach any of the really steep singletrack in the middle. Wouldn’t be fun on a cross bike and someone might die.
There’s some stuff in Chabot as well. I generally ride up through Leona Heights on fire roads up to Merritt college, from there, I can get to Skyline, drop down through Chabot, hit Redwood road, and then come back up that, or around Pinehurst and through Redwood park.
driving down Thurs may 8 (tag team drivin’ with another teammate so we can get everyones bikes down since most are flying), then leaving sunday the 11th. going to stay with the team fri. but if anyone wants to kick it thurs or sat night/sun morning and can house me for the night, then i’m down to hang.
fri night we are all staying together cuz it starts early in the morning way down in dublin.
What race is happening in Dublin on that Saturday? All I see on ncnca is Berkeley hills rr and red kite crit that weekend
Also now that someone has dug up the Bay Area thread for me - my team is hosting a time trial in Sunol on May 4th, and it has a Merckx catagory so all you Bay Area race bros/not race bros but still fast and want to test yourself bros, come out
