Be Kind to the Be-Hind aka #saddlechat

Sqlab seat going back. One of the rails is creaking after 50 miles. What garbage.

for anyone looking for a Berthoud saddle, I posted a link in the deals thread for a french shop that is over 100USD cheaper than runny arse, after shipping.

Wonder if it’s the elastomer making noise.

maybe

Got any silicone (spray) lube? If it’s the elastomer, then a quick shot of silicone should quiet things down.

Ah this one doesnt have an elastomer

Maybe grease the rails/clamp?

Did 30 miles on a low mileage B17 two nights ago (in non-bikey shorts). The butt was tender, but surprisingly not bad.

Did 25 miles on a Romin Evo last night (also in non-bikey shorts). There was a much more pronounced divot under the right sit bone compared to the left. It felt as though I was sitting a little harder on that side during the ride. Right butt side is a little more tender this morning than the left. Guess I need to start figuring out this imbalance.

Right leg shorter than left? Usually the compromise is slightly dropping the seat to balance left and right

Cleat shims.

Sorry to hear it. That kind of discomfort is always a bummer. Perhaps what you’re feeling is caused by either a leg length discrepancy or pelvic asymmetry? I have had a similar issue which was solved by using a combination of footbeds and a shim.

Here’s a link that might be of interest - https://www.stevehoggbikefitting.com/bikefit/2011/04/the-right-side-bias/

Omg this is the first time I’ve ever heard of clear shims! Amazing I’m going to try as my right leg is slightly longer

You may also want to visit your friendly local chiropractor. My legs are the same length but my body wishes they weren’t, so sometimes I have to go in and get them fixed

There isn’t anything that’s made me think I have a leg length discrepancy, and pretty sure I always set my saddle height using my right leg, so :man_shrugging:. I have raised all my saddles within the last year, and really haven’t done a lot of riding since then (until recently). Maybe it’s best I reevaluate that. Not sure if I’ve ever paid attention to see if I’m sitting centered on the saddle either.

@Alan thanks for the link.

I have noticed that I tend to lean to one side in my chair at work. Maybe I should pay attention to that too.

do you keep your wallet in your rear pocket?

Nope, moved to front pocket mini wallet a few years ago.

Anyone tried this saddle?

cutout SLRs are really comfy so I could see that being great

Happy to report that my butt seems to get along with the s/m Ergon sm-PRO

I was a little wary since it is apparently only 138mm wide, but it might be more comfy to me than the wider smc4 I bought earlier this year.

Ymmv but worth a shot FYI atmo etc
