Bicycle Wheel Warehouse

I feel very silly.

Don’t. You bought double butted spokes and they sold you single butted. Not sure that I’d be satisfied with that.

vs

so bicyclewheels advertises that a lot of their wheel builds use “DT 2.0” spokes. are those 2.0 throughout, so straight gauge?

Yeah, dble butted would be advertised as “DT Competition 2.0/1.8” fyi wheelsmith makes 2.0/1.7 and 2.0/1.5 and 1.8/1.55 and 1.8/ 1.475

the description up there you posted is for single butted spokes

i’m guessing they are also butted at the nipple end also. take your calipers out.

more than one dude building those wheels.

At this point, yeah.

Thanks for playing. No one bothers with that redundant crap. If the third diameter was worth defining, it’d be triple butted.

Actually, it’s always been Richard (owner of the shop) and this old dude that just builds wheels. I heard a while ago he was looking to hire a more few people to build wheels. I was going to go talk to him but I never did as it would probably break ties between me and the shop I work/ride for. It would have been awesome to take home a week worth of wheel builds, though.

I just bought DT Competition 2.0/1.8/2.0 (sometimes called 2.0/1.8 for short) for two 36h wheels. The butting at the hub end seems obvious but the butting at the nipple end is hard to see. Weird. I have the little spoke gauge that comes with the Park tensiometer, which makes it obvious that the butting exists at the nipple end too even though it’s hard to see.

Yup.

TC: I was once also outraged that the double-butted DT spokes that I bought weren’t until I used a gauge and then had to eat some crow.

Yum, tasty crow.

I checked out BWW before I bought parts for my wheelbuild and their prices are good. I’m building Ultegra hubs to Open Pros and their price for this wheelset is less than I paid for the parts. But I wanted 36h since this bike is for rando and light touring (previously toured on this combo except with 32h hubs but I moved that wheelset to another bike and decided to replace with 36h). I suppose I also wanted to do the build myself.

OP FORMULA WHEELS ARE BACK!

As I stated in the reviews section post I had a pretty good experience with them. But then again I just wanted an off the shelf build.

hey rusty, have you confirmed/denied that the spokes your wheels were built with are double butted or not?
