I can’t believe he’s making an expensive derailleur.

Fuck

I can at least tolerate all his other quirks and bicycle perversions, but can’t the man decide to spend his time lavishing florid praise on tourney danglers or something and save his company thousands of dollars it obviously doesn’t have

Like rivendell’s thing shouldn’t be fucking rapid rise derailleur

ooooooh

Semi-warm take.

Personally I am just in shock and awe of Jan Heine selling tubulars. Like in the back of my head I always knew that’s where he would end up, but to actually witness it.

I just… I don’t know how anyone can take seriously his next annual beg for money, after it is so obvious to anyone that this dangler idea is gonna be a big time money loser.

grant:

Fun fact: Thirty-dollar rear derailers shift as well as ones that cost five times as much.

also grant, later in the same post:

Our [rear derailleur] will cost $80 to $150

“Grant” is summoned by burying a ball of twine in moonlight at the intersection of two gravel roads south of mt diablo

What? No it’s really bad at that because shifting to easier gears means lots of clicks where if you want to go moar downhill faster one lever push gets you almost up the cassette. If I was super into downhill I’d definitely be running rapid rise it’s perfect for that and basically nothing else

Am I supposed to find them eating the derailleur R&D cost romantic?

Ha, it took me a sec to get what you meant by clicks.

rapid rise pairs well with bar-ends/ thumbies (grantmo.) then you actually can dump all your gears in one move and it goes fairly smoothly

There’s also these jawns that have normal logic, but the place where the cable is clamped is actually a secondary sprung swingarm, so that both upshifts and downshifts are by spring tension and you can command a downshift from a stop. Just put one on the xtracycle for that reason

Regardless i can’t wait to see it

wow I didn’t know that existed

lol. i just listed something up there. got a weird post complaining that the color wasn’t as i was representing it, so i raised the price as punishment for the hassle of dealing over there. then it sold.

Maybe he should ask Paul Price how the whole US-made derailleur thing went…
