Bike blerg thread

just had a horrifying/hilarious realization

what do you bet that the RivRapidRise dangler won’t conform to any pre-existing cable pulls and will be friction-shift only

duh

i’d like to say, i’m happy they’re doing it. it’s interesting and novel! we like interesting and novel!

Im happy about it too but its not really novel because it was done before. And its not interesting because its pretty much the same thing as before. Probably everyone who actually wants one can find one on ebay.
But im still happy he is doing it because it is weird and pointless and thats what i personally like.

Edit. I wont buy one because i dont like to use pointlessly weird things. But i do like to see other people doing pointlessly weird things.

was there a codename for that?

is there a dangler that has both this and megapulley?

They started with the Shimano “Light Action” derailleurs right at the start of the 6-speed SIS era, the RD-L5** units, but AFAIK there wasn’t a consistent name for this feature. Most of the earlier Exage line had this as well, not sure about any other groups

I bought a 9 speed Mirage derailler to replace a broken Shimano z-series, on a 6-speed gaspipe Peugeot. Ended up having to go to fastenal for much much longer limit screws.

I had a plastic Sachs at some stage, my stuff was all nasty cos married with chilluns.

yeah i remember this as light action. had such a neat feel with old click-y dt shifters

I appreciate that Rivendell does weird stuff like this but I’m mainly concerned they’re going to put themselves out of business.

It can’t be cheap to develop and arrange for the manufacture of derailleur like this. I don’t see how they’re going to recoup the investment since the piece doesn’t speak to their brand better than a tourney or alivio fetish would, nor does it offer any kind of competitive advantage that their customers care about.

Maybe I’m wrong. The core Rivendell demographic probabaly loves mansplaining shit about like why their shitty dangler is expensive and good because it’s weird but how many years are they going to be riding bikes?

As long as you can keep conning your customer base to buy gift cards, what’s the issue?

If it does put them under it will make a great story

It has been an interesting day at my workplace. I can’t pretend to know what Strava’s reasoning is here, but it seems like segments lose a lot of value for everyone if they are only for paid users going forward.

Strava is getting their money while they’re the market leader.

Curious to see long any of it stays free. I’m a heavy user but mostly just because it seems like the nicest app for obsessively tracking all my mileage. Doesn’t even seem to be very ad-supported at the moment.
