What’s this have to do with the decline of specialized
VanMoof had deals with bigtech companies to provide subsidized/free ebike leases for employee commutes
There’s a small dealership storefront in the employer-owned office building I work in, that presumably got free rent for that space
A very senior coworker of mine wrote a great little treatise about this phenomena: The Four Hobbies, and Apparent Expertise - Marc's Blog
be careful, because this is usually the same people with posts of the same quality
Oh so that’s why SLU is littered with those goofy looking ebikes
I love this. It really clarified some stuff for me, specifically the “doing the thing” vs “in the shop” distinction.
paint minis or play Warhammer which one?!? @Shamp
I feel like I enjoy the shop but I’m type 2 in the field all the time. Idk I guess I just want to be a real one
Play atmo
But if scaring up a game presents any challenge then it’s painting time with headphones on
55mi so far.
- Wowie these brakes are good
- Traction for days. I feel like I could scrape my bars on the floor and still corner.
- These 2.6" feels like more tire than I rly want considering I like to ride to the trails. These were free so I’ll run them till they stop working.
- Trimming the bars down to like 760 or so is also on my to-do list. 800mm is literally twice as much bar as I’m accustomed to.
MTB rides are measured in elevation ATMO.
What trails have you been riding?
I can imagine that bike being so perfect for even the gnarly trails around Atlanta
I’d try 780 first atmo.
slide the levers inboard to try out narrower bars
also recommend sticking with the grippy DHF tires for awhile since you have them, will help to not learn bad habits from weenie XC tires
1st I hit Arizona Trash trails which this bike was GARBAGE on. That system feels way way better on a small wheelbase CX bike. I also hit a bunch of cutty in-town stuff that the Dirty Mustache dudes frequent. Frazer Forest was fast and fun I did like 4 loops there Lullwater felt great. I’d love to go down to the Prison Farm but for ovds reasons that area is a no-go right now.
I also hit Southside Sports Complex. Thats pretty new and full of pretty fun uphill tech. I didn’t clear everything I wanted to, but this things is so long that I was struggling on a few rock gardens that normally I can zip through real fast.
For sure I plan on running these tires till I destroy them. MTB tires are too expensive to trash without good reason. It looks like the DHF goes straight from 2.3 to 2.5WT. That’s too bad.
4,800 then.
@emory is there anything decent south side? I’ll be visiting my parents in PTC in August.
Only trail I recall out there is Windridge outside of Newnan, but that was a looong time ago and it was on private property, no idea if still is a thing.
Haven’t been there, but it seems like Cochran Mill is a place people go on the south side. And maybe Brown’s Mill.
Cochran Mill is pretty tame IIRC. There’s not a lot I know of south of the city. If you wanna scoot up to Atlanta I’d love to show you some in town cutty crap.
they’ll all be pretty high Rolling Resistance, but very fast when it matters
the different widths of the same casing/tread/rubber would really be choosing the cross-section shape of the tire
with some of them being a bad fit, and some being lighter or heavier
XC tires will have a light casing and v little center or transition knobs.
They will make it feel better on the road…. And faster climbing, but will lose a lot in terms of front wheel cornering traction and rear wheel braking traction.
Let it be a mountain bike… if you want an easy ride to the trails where you have to baby your tires and skid around just ride your gravel thing.
