amateur made coverage:
@Unknown.Gnome and I went late morning on Sunday expecting to see a handful of cool bikes among a bunch of stuff we didn’t care about, take a quick lap and go get a beer. instead there was a lot of interesting craft, some great details, and less flashy paint than you might think.
as with the one moto show I’d been to previously, it was really hard to get good photos inside Zidell Yards. the space is an industrial building, very dark inside especially in the middle but the open bay doors at each end were super bright, and many vendors brought their own booth lighting. only a few like Scarab had nice daylight softboxes on stands, which I would recommend to anyone who wanted to give their products the best presentation.
one of the standouts for me was how many builders were using their own 3d printed parts especially BB yokes or SS wishbones in an otherwise ‘traditional’ custom assembly. we
talked to several folks about their design choices and process— Bender and Viral especially were stoked to nerd out about it. I was surprised that very few performed FEA on their parts especially builders like Viral that use a sintered Ti part as a spring.
Bender’s yokes
Viral’s NDS dropout
this bike also has a Pinion internal drivetrain
Victoire had some great details and beautiful paint
I was impressed by the detailing of the Framework and I liked hearing that the process is value and quality optimized from the beginning. that BB/crank package is really impressive
Circa had some real Alan/Vitus vibes with CNC lugs
I think this one was Sourdough— it was on top of the HiFi wheels booth so couldn’t get much closer but it looked great
many of the bikes used Darimo carbon components which look super delicate in person. I hadn’t seen this chairpole before that uses Dyneema loops to retain the saddle rails, or this 4g (!) binder clamp. at the other end of the spectrum there were many 5-axis Ti and sinter printed, wild ano components to marvel at.
obviously the Black Magic booth was very impressive
finally met Rob English and got terrible photos of his square-tubed MTB
this co-motion e-relationship accelerator had a hybrid chain and belt drivetrain all on the DS
the Rotor mtb cassette was shockingly light and machined like a fancy fly reel
some notes without photos:
Joergen and Julia from Sour were super nice and they distribute through Julia’s shop in Bend (Chariot). Will (Bender) is a true nerd and made some beautiful bikes. Larkin’s bikes are super pretty and dialed and almost don’t look custom in a good way. Ashley from Significant Other made such a subtle bomber fixed gear that was, like many other smaller builders, in a bare bones booth with little light.
wins:
- didn’t light the wallet on fire buying components
- met some great folckx
disappointments:
- didn’t meet @igor at the VO booth
- we both wore our WC hot dog hats which did not elicit even a single awkward question
- got cornered into conversation a few times but not by pvd
- there was so much worth looking at that we didn’t have a chance to enjoy the beer garden
overall had a great time, would go again and bring a faster lens or get a press pass for tarck media llc and shoot the bikes outside on Friday
It was a legit awesome show, kinda hot, but high caliber bikes. Bummer we didnt meet up! I must have been walking around taking pics or something.
Did you get a bingo?
Glad you got good pictures! Absolutely zero of mine are worth posting.
Edit: except this one https://tarck.cc/t/cool-s-or-the-stussy-s-if-you-will-post-em-and-critique-them/22444/165?u=mad.rains
No FEA and no fatigue testing - should be entertaining when all these parts start exploding.
yep— and because these are all one-off designs it basically kills the frame. it’s technically possible to weld or cut out, reverse engineer, and replace a 3d printed part but would it be financially sound, and would you trust it to ride afterward?
frame comes with an NFT of the DXF

Did you just misspell your own handle?
No
Your the reason Elon won’t give us an edit button
Did you see that cast aluminum frame?
I’m curious to hear Jon’s (Framework) thoughts on it when I see him next. His non-bike business is pattern and mold making.
That looks cool as shit.
I saw it in passing— the builder was wheeling it by but didn’t want to stop and talk about it. real curious about the specifics of the process to consolidate the casting, make it ride well, and not fall apart
