Bike blerg thread

He’s riding a sponsor correct XC race rig, Cannondale doesn’t make anything bikepackracing specific, nor do any manufacturers, really.

ok so im still hung up on this chainring. do xc bikes normally come with 38 tooth chainrings?

edit ok cdale top o the line comes with a 34. That sounds more normal.

no but ones that are modified to do the tour divide do, seeing that its not an XC mtb race.

I guess what I’ve been trying to say for days here is that a 38 tooth ring is big and only a former pro waif would run a ring like that for “bikepacking” since in addition to it being long and grueling, you’re usually carrying a ton of shit.

and also where did he get a chain that long lol

maybe he combined two chains to make one extra long chain.

you know what else is big? a 52t cog.

that’s what I’m saying!

Pro XC run 38t. I know nino did for world champs a few years back.

fwiw, lowest gear on my gravel/bikepacking bike is a 30/36 (.83 ratio) which is a harder gear than the 38/52 (.72) he’s running. 1x is a compromise, almost surprising he’s not running a 42 ring.

gravel bike and bikepacking bike are not the same thing

and yet, I use the same bike for both. checkmate atheist!

I think @Perlhammered meant worthwhile manufacturers

@Jacobell @emory I guess I meant more “mainstream manufacturers” who might be sponsoring a rider going for a TD record.

Just wait til bikepacking hits the olympics

I am glad that cannondale supports Lachlan in whatever his whims are even when it’s not competing in the pro circuit

It’s nice to have entertainers like him now for sure. Wish we had him back when I watched more cycling content. Look at me marveling at his big gears.

Except Salsa. Apparently Cutthroats are out of vogue now tho.

Apparently Sofiane used a 34 / 11-42 11 speed when he won TD in 2022.

Ya it really kinda doesn’t matter because you’re gonna spend a lot of time pushing your bike uphill.

That is prolly unless you’re a former pro tour rider.

Edit wow ok I looked up the route and apparently not is 100% rideable? Impressive. I seem to recall some pushing from peoples photos some years ago when I was paying attention to acquaintances tackling it.
