I think here are bits of hike-a-bike but its mostly weather dependant. People say its a very long gravel ride. Not even particularly steep but the hills can go on for a long time, so I’ve heard. There are people on this forum who have ridden it, or large parts of it.
100% rideable except descending fleecer ridge if you’re going southbound, atmo. when I rode it that was steepest loosest scariest descent I’d ever experienced. I think some hike a bike comes when the race starts early season and the trail becomes a snowfield or a midfield. now that I think of it, the only other time I pushed my bike for extended periods was when I got caught in a rainstorm in Wyoming and the great basin turned to peanut butter
I think Joe Nation rode fleecer ridge this year but he is ex EWS . Thanks for chiming in with a real world experience.
I wanna see the @BicyclePears version of this video:
Saw this on dentist forums and have opinions
It seems unlikely to me that a refinery would have a CNC machine shop and also that someone with an engineering degree would be allowed to touch the machines.
The average refinery maintenance shop I’ve seen has a handful of manual machine tools and some crusty maintenance personnel with contempt for anyone calling themselves an engineer.
Doesnt he have a twin brother? Or is that just his version of Tyler Hamiltons chimera defence?
Seems like you shouldn’t need a whole website to prove hambini sucks. Pretty self-evident shartmo. Surprised to see he is married tho
I wonder how terrible the character vs the person actually is though. I exchanged some emails with him about a gear inch/cadence progression chart he had and he seemed completely normal. I can’t say I like his delivery most of the time, but most of his critiques of the industry are dead on.
doesn’t @halbritt have one of his bbs?
Wouldn’t you want a bottom bracket made with experience gained in “predominantly Military Aircraft” design?
my bb is made by lockheed
I do, and it’s perfect. The degree of precision to which the thing is machined is both amazing and unnecessary, but admirable nonetheless. That was for a bb30 application after going through two other bottom brackets. I’d not hesitate to use another from him for any press fit application. He’s also a good source of non-counterfeit SKS bearings.
I spent 30 minutes with a micrometer and couldn’t find anything more than a tenth out of spec. Temperature may’ve been to blame.
As an engineer he’s likely extraordinarily competent. His YT persona is hard to cope with and he enjoys trolling people. There’s the misogyny and such that’s tough to bear.
The website in question is likely the result of having pissed off Absolute Black. He made a video in which he illustrated how much of a complete rip-off their derailleur cages were.
as an engineer he’s likely extremely average.
there’s nothing hard about making high precision parts if cost is no object, the hard part is convincing people that they should spend $300 on a bottom bracket.
the hardest parts of my aero/mechanical engineering job are cost-down without sacrificing functionality. handing me a shimano BB and telling me “you are allowed to make this 10x more expensive” would be a piece of fuckin’ cake.
My opinion of his abilities is less about the precision of his bottom brackets and more about the reasoning ability that he’s demonstrated. Certainly, that’s a subjective assessment, so take that for what it’s worth.
I wouldn’t presume, however that his personality has any bearing on his competence.
Achieving the kind of precision that he does on thin walled tubes at low part counts for the prices that he sells them at seems slightly more than a piece of cake.
Not terribly difficult, sure, but not easy by any means.
is this the dude that was banned from some comments section on some site and complained about it only to have the publication say “you harassed our journalists and are sexist please leave.”
i’d be generally suspicious of anyone willing to “put on” that character as their public-facing persona, no matter how pleasant and polite they were in other contexts.
