@igor I got all excited when you started talking about the tool you should have invested a long time ago thinking it was a new chain tool for the youtube videos. :colbert:

BTW congrats on the upcoming tarckstar!

it’s literally just a worse, more expensive Suntour V dangler

I think that was the point the whole time, make a new Suntour or Simplex dangler for some reason

Support Your Local Cantankerous Coot

it is a Nexave RD-C505 dangler without the Avid Rollamajig

with old timey forged styling for the drop parallelogram, but modern weight weenie aluminum for the megapulleys

Isnt it also rapid rise, or did he give that up?

But will it work any better than an Altus mega range? I think not.

Looks rapid rise. Peep the cable action

the peace sign in the jockey wheels looks stupid. I hate hippies.

I never saw a Nexave before last week when I was volunteering at my local bikerecycle coop. Man I loved that funky push button shifting. Definitely an uphill gardner action.

To be fair, that’s not final. But still there are plenty of things I would have changed well before getting to even the 3d printed stage.

This is the idea, not a final, and we just don’t know whether it’ll even happen, but this object exists, and we’ll try it out. If all you do is look at images and don’t read THIS, then you might get the wrong idea.

To clarify: This is made by a supplier we’re no longer using. It lacks some later refinements and other details that we consider essential. It may work fine, or it may be funky…but the first version worked fine even though it was super funky in several ways. We don’t know what to expect

@Emor_please that’s a great comparison, just look at this lovely jockey wheel cage. Lovely.

Can you wrap the chain around that suntour without breaking it?

Oh shit there’s a whole helmet redesign tirade too! With fundamental misunderstandings of why rock climbing/hardhats are different than bike helmets, no mention of how styrofoam absorbs energy thru cracking, scoffing at current testing methods, and with is own raw egg drop tests which mean something.

And of course calling out Big Bike Industry for not understanding how helmets work.

Jeeebus it’s like reading some conspiracy site.

Then he makes his own, much gooder.

Could helmets be more protective? Of course. Are current certification tests good stand-ins for real world scenarios? No one is saying they are perfect. But sheesh.

The suntour’s parallelogram is steel, and therefore more real. I rest my case.

:tarckbear:

wow this is a dangerous level of misinformed. I agree, both the testing and standards for bike helmets has room to improve, and there may be tech from other segments that could improve real-world safety
